Kai’s POV

After spending three days with Kat at the beach, I knew I was in deep. Waking up that first morning with her tucked against my body was… Fuck.

I didn’t even have words to describe how fucking content my heart felt. It was getting a glimpse of what our future would be like. I wanted it, all of it, with Kat. I knew 18 was too young to get married, but I couldn’t imagine there being anyone else.

By the time the weekend was over, we were inseparable. My brother had met Katie a few times over the years, and they got along well. Katie came to every baseball game and cheered me on, and I was on the sidelines cheering when her soccer team went to the State semi-finals.

Like that, the three weeks after prom flew by. We finished our exams one week, and had meetings with counselors to discuss our final grades the next. Basically, they pulled us in one by one to let us know if we were graduating or not.

Then, there was that final week of graduation rehearsals before we left this chapter behind. We had finished the last rehearsal and were leaving for the day when Christine decided to start a fight with Kat.

Matt had gone over to congratulate Katie on the soccer team taking second at State, and Christine lost her mind.

“Can’t you leave my man alone? Stealing Kai from my friend wasn’t enough?” She yelled across the gymnasium.

Katie was completely blindsided and looked for me. “Again, Chrissy, not after Matt, and two, I don’t hit on guys who are taken. That’s your thing.”

I was damn near running across the gym to get to Katie. Matt was trying to pull Chrissy behind him, but she punched and pushed him out of her way.

“So you weren’t hooking up with Kai all this time? You weren’t sitting back filling his head with bullshit, sabotaging his relationships?” Chrissy accused her.

Katie smirked. “No, I supported every single one of them, and gave him advice on how to make them work.”

Chrissy was not deterred. “Yeah, right!! So, you’re telling me you never had a secret hook up with Kai when he was taken?”

“That’s what I said,” Katie drew out.

“Oooooh, so it’s just my man that you secretly hooked up with since Alex’s party?” She screamed at Katie.
