“I thought you were going to ask her in private.”
Noah frowned, not sure why he would wait. When he said he would ask her, he meant right away. Just because he also wanted to see her didn’t mean anything. He found himself greedy for glimpses of her, greedy to see her lush locks that reminded him of a starlit sky. Blacker than midnight.
A bang sounded inside. Adrienne started cursing. Drey’s eyebrows rose. Noah grinned as she began cursing. He had discovered she had a bit of a temper if she was interrupted.
“Males!” She blew out a breath. “Bellowing and shouting their heads off as if we’re all deaf,” she muttered. She thumped heavily as she put down whatever she had knocked over. “Always the same. Now look at that splodge.”
Adrienne did a convincing impression of a growl, followed by a stifled scream.
Noah glanced at the home in surprise. The little female had been keeping her sounds from him and he found them fascinating. He wondered if all humans made these sounds and if he would like them all or whether it was just her sweet tone he craved.
And whatever a “splodge” was, it mustn’t be very good because she grumbled her way through the home.
She stepped out of the house, a loose colourful skirt stopped at her knees and a pink tank top tucked in. She stopped short when she saw Drey, her hands rising self-consciously to her hair.
It was all over the place.
Noah found he liked it wild. When she began fiddling with her skirt folds, he took her fingers to still the movement.
Ren stopped and her eyes flitted up to his briefly. Her dark eyes drew him, and there was a wealth of feeling in that glance.
He became stuck in her orbit. Drowning in her.
Attraction raw and intense swirled between them until all he could see were her creamy thighs spread on his sheets. Her warm wet centre, hidden by a scrap of material he could push away so easily. She tried to hide the flash of desire, but as soon as he let go of her fingers the connection dropped, and her eyes shuttered.
His fingers clenched, holding her warmth to him.
She turned a polite look on Drey. “Hello, Alpha.”
Drey inclined his head. “Adrienne. How are you?”
Adrienne absently rubbed her chest. “I’m okay, I think. Feeling better than I was. Lila told me that they would have results from my blood in a day or two. Perdy has been examining and testing it.” Adrienne sighed, looking unsure. “She’s young but very talented I’ve been told.”
“Yes, she really is. Whip-smart,” Drey reassured her. “Whip-smart.”
Adrienne’s shaky smile became firmer. Noah’s eyes fixed on her mouth, the way her lips formed a pretty plump curl as she smiled, her cheeks dimpling.
Those luscious red lips were full-bodied, and sumptuous, and made him want to kiss her. He didn’t care that Drey was here. It was better because then he could stake his claim on her.
“Noah!” she called.
If he had to guess by the look on her face, it wasn’t the first time she called him. Noah’s head jerked up with a grin to find her cheeks hot pink. Drey’s knowing gaze was on them.
“Yes?” Noah asked her.
She huffed, her eyes shooting fire. He did like her fire. “You called me.”
“Ah…right. I did.” He scratched his head. “The…” He stopped thinking of the other female entering the storage unit and controlled his growl. Just about.
He wanted to take Adrienne and run. He wanted to keep her away from all threats. Even vague ones.
“The?” Ren asked, waving her hand impatiently, while Drey held back his chuckle. The muffled laughter escaping Drey made Noah shoot him a glare to which Drey widened his eyes innocently.
Biting his tongue against the lies that wanted to roll off his tongue to keep her there. He instead said through gritted teeth. “We can visit your storage unit.”
“Oh. I see.” She bit her thumb.
“I thought you wanted to put your things in there. And look at what’s been left behind?” Noah wasn’t going to let her torture herself any longer.
