Page 47 of Noah

She was a twisted mess about the storage unit her father had left her, and intruder or not she needed to look at what he had given her.

Noah wasn’t an expert. Honestly, he had no idea what it was like to lose someone. With his eyes on his small female, he had no intention of losing who he considered important to him. Even Noah could tell she would only move on if she faced her grief.

She grimaced. “Now it’s been dealt with. I was just intending to ignore it.” Her head tilted, her eyes on him. He admired the smooth lines of her throat. “You’re not about to let me forget it are you?”

“No,” he replied simply.

She made a little growl sound. “It’s my storage unit.”

A smile spread across his face. “And you wanted to go.”

“And now I’ve changed my mind.” Stubborn, obstinate female.

“Changed your mind, you’re just scared of what you’ll find.” When he saw the flicker of fire deep in her eyes at the word scared, he held his hands up gently in surrender.

She sighed her shoulders slumping; air escaped her in a rush.

He grabbed her biceps promising, “You won’t be alone.”

She shuddered, a moment of vulnerability. Noah made sure to hide her from the Alpha’s eyes, using his body to shield her. If they were alone, he would smooth that wrinkle on her forehead away with his thumb.

Then sucking in a breath, she straightened up. “Okay, we’ll go.”

“I’ll set it up with security,” Drey told them.

Noah grasped her chin and tilted her head up to check she was okay. Her eyes were swimming with determination and not tears. She nodded once so he reluctantly released her.

When Noah stepped back, he found Drey studying them with interest.

“Nick’s team will be accompanying you.” Drey’s eyes sharpened. “Will that be a problem?”

“Problem?”

“They’re human. But all of them are on our side, they would die for us.” Noah saw a flash of pain briefly move through Drey’s eyes.

“No problem,” Noah replied easily. He could hold it together for her. Plus, Noah would be there to protect Adrienne.

He knew that not every human was the same, not every human would harm him, and his beast was too preoccupied with the dark-haired beauty that was leading them on a merry chase with her sweet scent to be worried about others.

Ren wouldn’t forgive him if he was violent for no reason, and he wasn’t as high-strung as some Numbers.

Ren eyed him and Drey.

Perceptive female that she was, she poked Noah in the side like she didn’t even register he was a predator, and said, “There’s more.” A statement, not a question.

He growled, fingers twitching at his sides. “There was a female spotted inside the storage unit.” Her eyes widened. “Do you know who it is?”

Adrienne sagged against the door, her shoulder resting on the warm wood looking completely comfortable in her environment.

Noah watched her absently chew her lip, deep in thought. He wanted to pull her lip out and kiss away the hurt. He growled.

Her eyes flicked up to his and widened as she felt the pull between them.

She was like warm fur against his skin, so soft and giving, warm and welcoming. Mango-vanilla in his senses—in the air he breathed.

He wanted to keep her, and he knew the thought wasn’t what would be deemed normal.

He didn’t care, only half of him was a rational thinking being—the beast wanted her for itself. It had no rational thoughts concerning her. Its thoughts were: mine, keep, and mate.
