He slipped out of her while they were still kissing, falling onto the bed, and pulling her close. He kept them face to face like he wanted to keep staring into her eyes.
A small smile escaped her even as her eyes drifted shut.
He held her hips making sure the lines of their bodies stayed connected. She swiped her finger over his fine face, her hands tangling in his colourful tiger-striped hair and staying there as she fell asleep.
Adrienne hadn’t spent all night in someone’s arms, not even in previous relationships, always leaving before the morning.
Not because she was ashamed or anything like that, but it just never felt right. She would twist and turn uncomfortably all night. Arms and legs would dig in and hot breath would annoy her. That’s when she knew if she stayed, she would get no sleep, so she would leave.
Yet it felt right lying in the protective circle of Noah’s arms.
She drifted off with a smile.
During the night if she rolled away from him, he was right there to catch her and bring her back into his arms. She slept all night with the scent of Noah surrounding her, his arms protecting her.
A brush against her cheek made her frown. It came again, this time following the line of her nose. She wrinkled it and heard a deep chuckle before his lips touched hers.
Her eyes flew open to see sunlight pouring into the window. It haloed Noah who was standing beside the bed fully dressed, holding a cup with steam curling out of it. Adrienne peaked at it, and he held it up chuckling.
“Is that coffee or tea?” she asked curiously.
“Give me a kiss and you can find out,” he replied, his eyes full of laughter. In a hurry for caffeine, and unfazed by the request, she kissed him and took the cup at the same time.
He didn’t fight her, he made sure her finger curled around it.
“Don’t want you to burn yourself,” he said.
Taking the drink, she inhaled before testing it. It was the right temperature, and she swore she smelled food cooking. “Are you doing breakfast?”
“I don’t know if we’ll be able to eat it,” he said with a laugh.
She felt a shift in the region of her heart. “What is it?”
“Something called French toast. Though why it’s called French when it’s baked here, I have no idea.”
Biting back a laugh she slid her legs over the bed, then realised she was naked.
Adrienne blushed because under his gaze her body heated. His eyes slid over her as if he could eat her and her mind immediately filled her head with visions of just that.
If possible that made her feel even hotter.
He inhaled deeply then groaned as he no doubt caught just how much she wanted him. He rubbed his hand over his eyes like he was trying to scrub images out of his mind. She licked her lips, whipping the sheet around her top half.
He blinked like he was coming out of a daze and turned around. He strode to the door muttering and adjusting himself. She bit back her smile and stood. She looked around and spotted her dress partially tucked under the bed.
Grabbing it, she slipped it over her head. Opening her drawers, she pulled out a skirt and top and headed for a shower.
As fast as she could because she didn’t want to miss anything, especially Noah’s cooking, she stepped into the shower and rubbed her skin.
When she entered the kitchen minutes later, she sniffed and could tell that nothing was burning.
Then she found Noah frowning and rubbing his eyes as he looked between a pan and a cookbook.
It was a standard cookbook with quick-cook recipes. Adrienne peeked over and held his page while quickly flicking through. “Meant to help you discover cooking?” she asked.
He nodded; his brow wrinkled in concentration. He muttered again, so she slid up next to him ready to help. “Are you okay?” she asked.
He turned to her with blank eyes before they cleared like he had been thinking about something unpleasant. “Yeah,” he choked out. His voice strangled like he wanted to say something but was holding back.
