“That was you defending yourself. Oh, sweetie, I can’t wait to see you in action when you think someone is attacking you.” Briar laughed and the air heated.
Noah wrinkled his nose and decided not to mention the flare of lust he caught from them to Adrienne.
“What do we do?” Adrienne clasped her hands tightly in front of her.
“We look after our family,” Drey said simply.
Adrienne hadn’t decided to stay, but Noah saw her sag in the chair because protection had been extended to Mhane. Noah touched her neck, soft velvety bear skin. He held her for a moment.
“We’ll set up some form of rotating guard,” Mallen’s deep voice filled the room. With a chuckle, he glanced at Briar. “Unless you think the Spitfire can handle it.”
“Nah,” Briar laughed, his eyes locked on Mhane. “She might need a touch of help.”
Noah could see Mhane didn’t know what to make of their teasing though Adrienne had relaxed and was smiling. Noah should remember to thank the Alphas for putting her at ease.
They were doing it for him and Adrienne.
That’s not to say they wouldn’t help people in need. However, if she hadn’t been Adrienne’s sister, she wouldn’t have had a foot in the door, let alone their trust before she even got to the Alpha’s floor.
Adrienne’s eyebrows drew down as she stared at her sister while they discussed plans for her house.
Noah pulled a lock of hair to get her attention. She peeked up at him and frowned. He smoothed her forehead with his thumb and tilted his head in question.
Adrienne breathed out harshly and then gave him a reassuring smile that somehow left him feeling less than secure. It looked forced but Noah wouldn’t ask her what was wrong, not with everyone around them.
“We should…” Drey started to say.
Mhane turned to Adrienne completely ignoring everyone in the room. “Go home. I won’t leave without telling you. I promise I’ll say goodbye. Who knows how long I could be here?” She slipped Ren a piece of paper with an elegant scrawl on it. “My address.”
Noah didn’t know whether to be impressed by Mhane’s blatant show of courage or flat-out flabbergasted by it.
Mhane had courage to spare that was for sure. Mhane was confident they would let her go and she could handle herself, even going as far as interrupting the Alpha’s while they were talking.
Though he didn’t think that had been her intent, she had just been speaking to Adrienne but in a room with Alpha personalities and ears like hawks, she may as well have shouted over them. Mhane was the most confusing female he had met, and he was trying to win her sister’s heart.
His eyes fixed on his quietly feisty female. He saw the flush on her cheeks as everyone looked at them.
The enticing colour spread over Adrienne’s cheeks, down her neck, and over her collarbone. A delicate, beautiful female with dainty hands that curl perfectly around his shaft. Pretty pink lips that turn peachy in the sunlight.
He tried to ignore the blood rushing south. It was almost impossible when he was looking down at the top of her heaving breast as if they were trying to escape her flimsy top and Noah was tempted to help them.
But the eyes around them stopped him from acting on impulse and the knowledge they would scent his desire.
He wouldn’t share her perfection with any other males. She was his. His to pet to orgasm. His to steal the sounds she made, to hear her musical cries. His to have and his jealousy wouldn’t allow other males to stare covetously at her. Now he wanted to cover her breasts. The creamy mounds were too tempting.
Mine.
Nothing had ever sounded so right not even when he planned in great detail the deaths of everyone in the warehouse who had made the mistake of thinking he was an easy target.
“Noah,” Adrienne uttered. Her head tilted back, offering up her enticingly slim neck to him in submission.
His head jerked up as he realised the room was too quiet and everyone was staring at him. How long have they been calling his name?
Grinning, Noah probably looked a little bit crazy—no, a lot crazy and he didn’t care, his finger caressing her neck obsessively and possessively.
His eyes lit from within, flashing to amber while his scent would tell them exactly what he had been thinking about.
Shit!
