“Yes, and we have more humans than ever visiting and allowed access to Moon.” Noah took a deep breath, and his smile was strained. “We’re just being extra cautious. To have all the little ones, even humans, in one place leaves us a little uneasy.”

“I know you’ll do everything you can to keep them safe.”

“Hmhm,” he agreed, his lips brushing against hers.

She grinned and ran her tongue over his lower lip. He pressed a quick kiss on her lips as a Jeep pulled up.

“Drey,” he growled. He glanced down at his cock, and she did the same.

She laughed when she saw it pressed tight against his trousers. Biting her lip when he glared at her. “Later,” he told her or his cock, she wasn’t sure.

His disappointment was obvious, and he crushed her into another numbing kiss that she felt right down to her toes. Her body tingling and her heartbeat a little erratic she saw the pleased glint in his eyes as he walked away. In a daze, she admired the bunch of his arse as he strode away.

She shook her head to clear it.

She grabbed her shoes and decided to go to the hub before she did something silly like telling the Alpha to get lost and jumped Noah. When she got out onto the porch, she offered Drey a smile.

Drey pulled her close. She froze and she saw how watchful Noah had become. He was prepared to hurt Drey if he hurt her.

Drey inhaled deeply.

Noah’s claws slid out and Adrienne stayed completely still as Drey carefully brushed his cheek over the top of her head.

Noah relaxed and she pulled a face. Noah shook his head at her, and she figured she would ask him about it later. Mindful of the Alpha she said goodbye, placing a quick peck on Noah’s cheek.

Adrienne was halfway to the Jeep when she realised, she had left her keys. Adrienne had sold her car, one because she needed the money and two because she didn’t need it in Moon. It was funny how she had settled into life there when she wasn’t planning to. It was so easy and welcoming it was hard not to.

Mhane was taking Adrienne’s car to a seller and if Noah hadn’t blown her mind last night, she thought with a satisfied smile, then Adrienne might not have forgotten them in the first place. There was paperwork she needed with the keys.

Turning on her heels, she started to make her way back inside.

“…haven’t told her,” Noah groaned.

She was just rounding the home when she paused and held herself extremely still. Instinct said the conversation was about her. Noah sounded tortured.

“Whatever it is. Tell her,” Drey replied.

Adrienne’s short nails bit into her palm as she tried to stop herself from running out and demanding he tell her and not the Alpha.

“You know I have this thing about her being too far away? The physical pain and cramps?”

“Yes.”

Adrienne flattened herself to the side of the home. A breeze whipped around her ankles where the gap between the home and the forest floor allowed the weather to fly through.

She ignored the bite of cold and strained to hear.

“They haven’t found a solution, but you have been going further distances. Myers was quite impressed with the length of time you spent in the school away from her.”

Yes, the distance had been improving. Adrienne was glad he wouldn’t be tied to her side. How debilitating for Noah. Almost like another cage, even if Noah liked this one.

Noah coughed and the silence dragged on until Drey finally seemed to force himself to ask what she was thinking. “Something is wrong?”

“About the distance…” Noah began and with her heart in her throat, she listened as hard as she could to pick up every nuance. “…I might have lied about the pain.”

“You’re not in pain when you’re away from her. Then what? It’s hard to concentrate?” Drey asked tightly as if he was hoping for something else.

Adrienne had a sudden sinking sensation.
