I don’t understand it but I just feel this need to stay away from this man.
“Yes, I believe you can. I’ve been trying to find a specific ingredient for a spell that I’m working on but I haven’t had any luck. I was hoping you would have it.”
The words he’s saying make sense but I can’t help the shivers rippling down my spine.
“What is it that you need?” I shift away again but he groans.
“It would be easier if you check the ingredients on the spell and you can tell me what you think.”
I don’t want to move closer to him. Not at all. But he’s a customer. And he needs something.
I edge closer to him and hold out a hand for his phone to check out what he needs. He hands it over and I check the ingredients, my eyes narrowing.
“What the hell is this?” I glance up to find that he’s moved so close to me that I can see the red swirling in his dark eyes.
“I knew you were the one,” he says breathlessly. And then he does something behind his back with his hand and I feel the icy tendrils of a sleeping spell coming over me.
“No!” I gasp and try to back away from him quickly.
But I feel myself slipping under the soft, dark mantle of the spell. The last thing I see is those damn glowing red eyes.
CHAPTER 6
Trinity
Isnuffle and wake slowly, finally jerking fully awake when I see the dark room around me, the bars on the wall that keep me in. I crawl across and attempt to touch them, hoping to bend them to my will. I’m not as good with metal as I am with natural things but I can still do simple spells.
But I hiss and jerk my hand back, the electric current in the bars almost knocking me backward.
“You didn’t actually think I would make it that easy for you, my love.” His dark voice snorts out of the dark. “I’m not that big an idiot.”
My eyes jerk up to him and I groan softly. Of course he’s crazy.
“Wh-what do you want? Why did you bring me here?”
“Your magic and mine are a perfect match. The power we could wield is astronomical. “
Just the thought makes me gag. “I-I can’t do that. I’m mated,” I say desperately. I don’t want this guy anywhere near me. And I’m sure as hell not going to be with him. Not in this lifetime or the next. I’d sooner be dead.
“I know. I can smell him on you.” His thin lips curl. “A human. With such a powerful witch. What a fucking waste! Luckily, I know how to break that bond that I see trailing around you.”
“You can’t do that!” I gasp.
“I can and I will. There’s one thing that you better understand about me, my love. I will absolutely do everything to win you over. But I am also not going to give you up to another male. You’re mine. My perfect fit. The perfect witch to make me more powerful than any warlock around here. And I’m not giving that up for anything as stupid as another mate.” His dark head cocks to the side. “I can tell your bond is not complete. You haven’t mated with him fully. And that gives me this opportunity where I don’t have to kill him to get what I want.”
“If you were to do that, you’d very likely kill me too,” I scoff.
“A tragedy, my dear. But I refuse to give up. And if I can’t have you, well then neither can he. I’m a selfish man by nature. And you bring it out something fierce. I can see our future together. The lovely, strong children we’ll raise. The worlds we can remake in whatever way we want.”
“You’re crazy,” I hiss.
“Don’t think I haven’t heard that before.”
He stalks back to the desk behind him. Black wood glows menacingly in the dim light of the room. He picks up a chart and smiles at me. “Two more nights and it’s a full moon. At that point, I can craft the spell that will destroy that…”. He waves his pale, slim hand at the area around me vaguely. “That abomination.”
My heart clenches tight and I struggle to drag in a breath. “I don’t want that.” And I don’t. Sure, I wasn’t too keen on a human mate but I’m even less keen on losing a piece of my soul to this man’s power madness.
“Too bad. I can tell you’re not too terribly upset over losing this connection. I saw you in the restaurant. Saw that initial spark and the look on your face. You don’t want a human. You want me. And luckily I can make that happen for you. For us.”
