Her words had pissed me off, and she had chosen the worst possible time to tell me she wanted Chase and me.
Was she for real?
Heather knew she had fucked up because she stood up, shaking her head quickly.
"Honestly—that was then. I'm not that girl anymore," she babbled, but I was fuming.
I dragged my pants up, checking the clock once more.
"It was just dirty talk, Rafe."
"You wanted to fuck Chase?" I demanded, turning to stare at her.
Her face fell, and she hesitated.
"No—well yes, at the time, but not now!"
"Yeah? So why say that when we were having sex, Heather? I'm not an insecure guy; in fact, I'm pretty confident I could have anyone," I snapped as she narrowed her eyes.
"It was just dirty talk, Rafe. You started it."
"Alright. Then I'm ending it."
"Ending what?" Heather demanded, her eyes wide as she grabbed my arm.
I glanced down at her hand.
"The conversation, sweetheart. Don't worry, as I said. I’m not insecure. If you wanted Chase, I'm sure it would be him you were licking your juices off, not me."
She pressed her mouth to mine then, the taste of our combined juices on her tongue.
I broke away with a smile.
"Gotta go. Back soon."
She was silent as I left, and it was only when I got outside that I dropped my smile.
She wanted both of us?
I was ready to rip someone's throat out, despite knowing what she had said was true—it was just dirty talk. But despite my initial confidence, I didn't feel so sure.
I didn't want to be anyone’s second best, no matter what.
She’d do well to remember that.
EPILOGUE
"Damn girl, you got some fine ink."
The blonde didn't turn around, and the man that had spoken was soon pressed up against her, his arms on either side of her as he protected her from the surge of bodies that surrounded them.
"Thanks, my man did it for me," the blonde replied silkily, leaning back to rest her head on his shoulder.
"Is that why you've got an initial on your wedding finger?" The man murmured, dipping his head to kiss her throat tenderly.
"Just in case I end up marrying the guy," the blonde replied, waving her finger in the air for him to admire.
The man captured her hand, sliding a diamond ring over the finger in question, and the girl inhaled with surprise.
