I step off the elevator, opening to the hall that leads to the apartments.
I notice the usual vase of flowers that’s always on the table is missing.
The lights flicker, then go out, leaving me in darkness.
I hear a creaking door.
Then heavy footsteps.
The blood is roaring in my ears.
It’s so dark, I can barely see my hand.
A scream is in my throat, but I force myself to move my feet.
I take a couple of steps, and I'm not on the usual floor, but something…harder? Firmer?
My mind whirls.
I hear footsteps again. My head is swimming with confusion. Ahead of me, something thumps, making a banging sound.
I scream.
My heart is thundering hard in my chest.
"Time to run," a deep booming voice says from behind me.
I am still frozen in shock. My mind is scrambling, and then footsteps are coming towards me.
I run.
Something thick crashes into my knee, I land on my stomach.
It's soft. Padded.
And then I giggle, because it's a relief to my fear.
Under me, I'm very sure they are gym mats. The thing that crashed into my leg is also a gym mat.
This is the take down scene.
An echo rustling sound comes from somewhere and it freaks me out
The unknown sound has my pulse racing again. I hear footsteps in front of me and I scramble to my feet
He's not going to get me that easily.
Nope, if he wants me, he's going to have to work a little harder.
Reaching down, trying to find the object that crashed into me, I grab it and throw it behind me and run, trying to picture the hallway in my mind
Heavy footsteps run behind me.
The unknown is crashing into my logic, the rustling sound cranked up and I keep running, hitting something with my feet. I tumble to the floor.
Gritting my teeth, I try to push myself up, and a hand grabs my leg, pulling me to them.
I furiously kick, tears falling down my face.
