"How are you liking your party?” Theo says, ambling next to me.
"Thanks for throwing it together. The band is a nice touch.”
Theo smiles and raises his glass to me. “I’m thrilled you found Mara, Evan. You deserve to be happy.”
"If I can forget about my ex, you can forget about yours.”
Theo lifts his shoulder in a shrug. “Maybe.”
“Any decision on a kinky bed and breakfast?”
“I don’t know.” Theo frowns. “But I’ll do anything I can to make Callie happy.”
“Good.”
The whole room starts to sing, “Happy Birthday,” and my head chef is pushing out a cake alight with candles. Mara’s bringing me over to it, smiling.
“Happy Birthday, Sir Evan. Make a wish.”
“You’re all I could ever wish for, princess.”
She squeezes my arm.
I blow out the candles, then kiss my princess as if she’s the cake, and I’m tasting her all over again for the first time.
