“Want to watch a movie?”
She moves to the edge of the couch.
“Yes.”
“Let me get us a snack. You can pick the movie.”
She grins. “You might regret that. I like romcoms.”
I laugh. “‘Tis the season for them, right?”
“Right.” I drop a kiss on her lips, take her hand and we stroll to the kitchen. “The remotes for the TV are on the shelf to the left,” I tell her.
"Got it.” Mara smiles.
Whistling, I assemble a plate of cheese, nuts and grapes.
“I think I figured it out,” Mara grins, gesturing at the TV.
“Oh, that’s an old one,” I grin as the credits for Serendipity roll by.
“My mom’s favourite.” I put the tray on the table, pat the couch.
Mara settles next to me.
From behind me, I grab a throw blanket and spread it out between us.
Mara leans her head against my chest, and this is the only way I want to spend my nights.
We watch the movie in comfort, laughing and snacking, and when it stops, Mara yawns.
“Now I could sleep,” she says. “Good. Can I take you to breakfast tomorrow?”
She blushes. “Yes, I would like to have breakfast with you.”
“Good,” I press a light kiss against her brow. “Let me tuck you in, pretty girl.”
She glances away, but takes my hand and I walk her back to the bedroom.
Mara helps me turn down the bed, a pensive look on her face.
“Are you okay?”
“Yes, just tired. It’s late.”
“Get into bed.” I come around to the side she’s standing on, fluffing her pillow.
“Thanks,” she grins shyly. She gets into bed. I pull the blankets up to her chin, kiss her lips.
She giggles.
I climb in next to her, turn on my side, and reach for her.
Mara turns, so her back is against me, and I softly glide my hands from her arms to her hips.
“Good night, Evan.”
“Night, Mara.”
