He takes a step forward. “Tell me to go, otherwise I’m throwing you over my shoulder.”
My face is flushed. “You wouldn’t!”
Evan puts his shoulder to it, but the door won’t budge. “What on earth do you have in there?”
“Stuff I need for my work.” My voice is hoarse and husky.
“I haven’t heard you say ‘go.’”
My throat is so dry. “I don’t know…I can’t stay with you.” But my heart is fluttering because that night we spent together? He made me feel adored. So I can’t tell him to go, even though this is a terrible idea.
He steps close to me, lifts my chin, his touch firm. “I’m going to escort you inside where you’ll pack a bag for five days and I'll spend the next week showering you with affection, convincing you what we had was good and we need to continue,” his touch is burning hot, despite the rain. His hand rests on my shoulder, his gaze staring at me.
The world seems to stop for a moment as I'm flooded with the memories of the one night we spent together.
I’m remembering how treasured he made me feel. I swallow past the lump in my throat.
I know I should say no to him because it could never work between us, but I've been so lonely after I left my job and it's hard to deny what he’s offering me.
But I need to put some emotional distance between what he wants.
“Triple my fee?” I bit my lip.
Evan showcases his impressive dimples as he strokes my hair.
The rain peters off to a stop.
“You have my word.”
My heart is in my throat.
I want to say yes.
Looking into his dark eyes, his pleased smile, I'm going to say ‘yes’. This is the wildest, most out there moment I've ever had.
“Yes.”
“Good girl.”
My heart flutters at the praise. Evan laces his fingers through mine.
“Let’s go get that bag packed.” He takes a step forward, his hands coming around my hips, and it suddenly occurs to me what he’s about to do.
“Evan! I believe you!” I’m laughing so hard I can barely breathe and I’m trying to twist out of his grasp.
“Are you sure?”
“Yes! Don’t lift me.”
Being with Evan is so easy. This flirting between us is fun.
“I need to remind you that I am a man of my word.”
“I know you are.”
“Is that why you left so suddenly?
“No.”
