I get out of the car, whistling as if I am not going to explode in my pants, open her door, then pop the trunk and grab her bags.
She reaches for them.
“You would deny me my chivalric duty?” I say it softly, but with a touch of command in my voice.
She lets out a giggle.
“What is so funny?” “Are you for real? Who says words like chivalric?”I flash her a grin. “I am for real, my princess,” I bow slightly.
“I am not going to turn down chivalrous acts by you, Sir Evan.”
“Good girl.” I toss her bags over my shoulder, and depress the handle of her rolling suitcase.
“The purse matches your suit.”
“Thank you, dear princess. To the left,” I instruct.
Mara walks close to me, and it makes my heart soar.
I don’t know if it's because of the little role play or because of the reassurance that I'm not rescuing her out of something she can’t handle, but Mara being relaxed like this makes me feel damn good.
We reach the elevators and after the doors close, I use my key to get to the private floor.
“The impressive transportation continues,” Mara murmurs, gripping the back of the padded car.
“You’re too easily impressed, princess.”
Her adorable lips twitch, looking so kissable. I am having a tough time containing myself.
“I didn’t say you’re impressive, Sir Evan.”
I raise an eyebrow at her and the sassy princess covers her mouth as she laughs.
“I’ll have to work harder.” I crowd her space, and lift her chin. “You’re worthy of it, princess.”
The elevator opens to the vast hallway.
“What pretty alliums.” Mara rushes to the vase on the pedestal table, and the cluster of dark purple flowers.
I don’t take care of the decor. That’s left to Julian's capable staff, but her admiration of it makes me smile, even if flowers aren’t my thing.
I set the bags down, swipe my key to unlock the door.
The lights come on as soon as I step in, automatically adjusting to the amount of grey daylight the huge windows are letting in.
“It did seem like a movie set,” Mara mumbles behind me.
The tone changes in her voice, pulls at my heartstrings.
Did she leave because this was too overwhelming?
I set Mara’s bag down, take off my shoes and throw them on the shoe rack.
“I’m delighted to have you, princess.”
I don’t care about why she ran out on me the morning after our one-night stand.
All that matters is this beautiful woman is here, inside my apartment, and I plan to have my way with her.
