“I can’t wait to have dinner with you.”
I can’t believe we’ve spent three whole days together and there is still more to come.
Maybe I can be scared and still want to be with him all the time.
But not because he just gave me a workspace to use.
“When I mentioned Steff was my designer, I noticed your face. I had called her to set up a meet and greet with you but then I thought of asking her if she knew of any studio space that would be fitting for your needs,” Evan’s hand is warm on the small of my back, as he walks me to the car.
“Her work is amazing! That space is more than I ever dreamed, Evan. I don’t know how to thank you.”
“I want to make all your dreams come true, Mara.” His fingers brush mine as he closes the door. My insides jump around.
I think of how fast the romance was between my mom and stepdad and I know, these things could happen, this instant love thing. I never expected it to happen to me.
“Steff wondered if not having retail access was going to be a hindrance. I think I explained floral design wrong.”
“No, not having street access is perfect. It’ll keep people I don’t want to find me away.” I’m so wrapped up in happy bliss vibes that I don’t realize what came out of my mouth until I feel Evan’s steady, cool glare on me.
“Mara, what do you mean?”
“Dealing with the public can be hard, you know?” I sputter.
Evan’s expression relaxes. “Yeah, I get that. If only we didn’t need customers, eh?”
I join in his soft laughter, my stomach twisting in knots.
I don’t mean to keep things from him, but if he found out what terrible decisions I made, what would he think? I don’t know if I can face him.
“We have time before dinner. May I suggest a shower?”
“Yes, someone got me all sticky.” My cheeks are so hot as I say it.
“Yeah?” He raises his eyebrow in that cocky way and I melt.
I’m blushing furiously as Evan parks in his spot at the hotel and he’s ushering me into an elevator I hadn’t seen before.
“Private?” I ask as he swipes his keycard.
“Yes, I can’t trust myself in public with you.” He pins me against the elevator, dropping a kiss on my neck.
I giggle. “Maybe I should stay away tonight so I don’t distract you.”
“Don’t you dare. I want to paddle your ass in the restaurant. How does that sound, princess?”
I’m so wet, I want to hump myself against his leg.
“Yes Sir.” The words come out whispered .
Evan snakes his hand in my hair, holds it there, even after the door opens, he walks me down the hall like this, one hand in my hair.
It’s a firm but gentle touch and there’s a teeny tiny part of me that wants to know what he’d do if I broke away.
He holds me as he gets the door open, and we take off our shoes. He takes off his jacket, I hold open my hand for it, and hang his up beside mine, still with his hand in my hair.
“It feels slightly restrictive with your hand on me like this.”
“Do you like it?”
