“I got something to share, alright!” Hailo moved so quickly that I didn’t see it coming, and honestly, I didn’t think Kyerra did either. Or maybe she thought Hailo was all talk, but I knew she’d been waiting on a reason, and Kyerra just gave her one.
Hailo thumped Kyerra so hard in the forehead that I thought she was rebuking demons in the name of Jesus. Kyerra stumbled, garnering everybody’s attention, but Hailo wasn’t done. She walked up to Kyerra with her fist clenched, but I jumped in front of her allowing Gianni time to make it across the room.
“Stay out of my business, or next time I’ll punch you in that mouth, you like to run so much!” Hailo fussed, leaning around Gianni to point her finger at Kyerra for emphasis.
“Keep it up, and I’ll air all your shit out!” Kyerra yelled.
“Air me out bitch!” Hailo antagonized.
“Yo, chill out!” Gianni picked Hailo up, fussing and carrying her out of the room because that was the only way to diffuse the situation.
Tyson was now by Kyerra’s side, making sure she was okay, and suddenly, I was no longer looking forward to going out. We’d barely made it through the pregame, and they were already arguing.
“Here,” Solana slid the shot glass filled with liquor toward me before pouring herself one. “We’ll need it to get through the night with them.”
“At the rate they’re going, we might need to remain sober,” I suggested.
“Is she keeping a secret from Gianni?” Solana asked.
I poured the shot back to buy myself time to answer Solana’s question. Hailo had sworn me to secrecy, but she was making it incredibly hard.
Gianni and Hailo returned, and he delivered one last warning before joining the men in the living room. Kyerra excused herself to the bathroom while Hailo stood at the counter with me pouting.
“Don’t stand there with your lip poked out now. Keep your hands to yourself tonight! You do know you’re pregnant, right?” I whispered.
“I couldn’t drag that bitch like I wanted at Mack’s party. I owed her one.”
“Gianni and Mack will kill you and me if something happens to that baby. Do us both a favor and calm down.”
“That wasn’t my fault. You heard her smart-ass mouth.”
“You’re always taking jabs at that girl. She probably got tired of your shit,” I replied, not taking sides.
“You and Mack are a match made in fuckin’ heaven,” Hailo groaned because she knew I was right.
“Why? Because we both tell you the truth even when you don’t want to hear it.”
“That’s exactly why. It’s annoying.”
“Seriously, Lo. You and Kyerra aren’t that different. Give the girl a break. She fucked up, but she’s trying, so you can try too.”
“God is still working on me,” Hailo tossed out, reapplying her lip gloss.
“Hurry up and tell your man because I’m tired of drinking for two.” I snipped.
“I love you.”
“If you love me, please. Please, behave tonight.”
“I’ll try harder,” Hailo conceded. “Now come on, and be discrete, taking my shot this time. You almost got us caught earlier.”
“The fuckin’ nerve of you!”
Hailo kissed my cheek, looping her arm inside mine as we joined the men in the living room. I didn’t know what this night had in store, but at the rate we were going, I’d need another break to recover from this one.
“Okay, seriously, did y’all follow us here?” Hailo fussed with her hands perched on her hips.
“You’re over here in our section. We should be asking y’all the same question,” I pointed out.
