“Maybe we won’t fight over it,” said Rohan. “Maybe we’ll just know when the time comes how it is that’s supposed to work.”
Eleri caught my gaze across the table. “I can scent how Sinclair feels about it.”
“Can you?” I rumbled, smiling at her.
Maguire squeezed my shoulder. “You two will make a very pretty baby.”
I looked up at him.
He kissed my nose. “But you have to let me take charge if you start going off the rails.”
“Or me,” said Rohan.
I grinned. “Yes, alphas.”
Eleri set down her fork. “Okay, that’s enough breakfast. I’m full.”
We all turned back to her, shaking our heads.
“Finish that pancake, omega,” said Rohan. “Every single bite.”

THE QUEEN GOT up from her couch and gestured with two fingers for Eleri to get up from where she sat sandwiched between me and Rohan.
We all stood up, but Eleri was the only one who stepped forward.
The Queen came around the table of sweets—which, of course, no one was eating—and squinted at the marks on Eleri’s neck. “I only see three,” said the Queen.
Eleri pulled her shirt aside to show off Rohan’s on her shoulder.
The Queen lifted her chin. “Hmm,” she said. She turned around, hands clasped behind her back, and then wandered to the other side of the table. She began to pace back and forth. Her dogs got up to pace, too, little tongues hanging out of their furry little mouths.
I reached out for Eleri’s hand and pulled her back between Rohan and me.
Eleri gave me a look.
I shrugged back. Who understood the Queen?
“So, you all seem quite cozy,” said the Queen. “Whose idea was it to bite her all at the same time?”
“Everyone’s,” said Maguire.
She turned to look at him, surprised he’d spoken for us all. She turned to look at me, eyebrows raised.
I shrugged. Honestly, not being the pack leader was the best thing that ever happened to me. I didn’t actually like responsibility. It had been thrust upon me, sure, and I was capable of rising to it, but handing it off to other people was something I discovered I really enjoyed. Maguire was a much better leader than I’d ever been.
“Everyone’s?” said the Queen.
“I mean, basically,” said Maguire.
“What about the business in that alley behind the bar, hmm?”
“Oh, that,” said Sinclair with a little laugh.
“Just blowing off steam,” I said. “Sinclair and I had some things to work out.”
“Using your fists,” said the Queen.
