There was some bodyguard there, and he waited his turn after Devlin to take the omega into his arms. She sighed into him, reaching out for Rohan at the same time. All three of them closed in on her, holding her between them like she was precious. They were all purring.

I stood there, outside it, watching, feeling some angry ache in my chest that was all too familiar. It followed me, that ache, no matter how I tried to outrun it. It surfaced, no matter how I tried to bury it. It emptied, no matter how I tried to fill it.

Abruptly, Devlin broke away from her and advanced on me, alpha energy coming off him in waves.

He wanted me to submit to him, and my alpha reared up in fierce defiance to that. A growl rumbled in my chest and I clenched my hands into fists.

Devlin closed the distance between us and grabbed me by the back of my neck.

I bucked him off, seething. “Nothing happened.”

Devlin’s eyes widened in disbelief.

“I was inside her for less than ten seconds. Maybe I gave her an orgasm. Mostly nothing.”

Eleri broke away from the other two to intercept us. She put a hand on Devlin’s chest. “It’s okay, Devlin. Please, don’t hurt him.”

Devlin snorted, looking down at her. “Don’t hurt him?”

“No, please, it will just make this worse,” she said. “He’s already in so much pain.”

“I’m fine,” I said, rolling my eyes.

“He hurt you. He hurt me. He hurt us.” He gestured behind him. “He hurt the pack.”

“Wait, what?” said Rohan, moving over into Devlin’s line of vision.

Devlin furrowed his brow. “Yeah, fuck, it just came out.”

“That would involve all of us biting her,” said Rohan.

“I know what that would involve,” said Devlin.

“Well, you didn’t mean it,” said Rohan. “And you shouldn’t say things like that, especially including the bodyguard in it, because dangling that in front of him is—”

“Yeah, wait a second,” I interrupted. “Since when is he an alpha?”

“Since her,” said the bodyguard, stepping forward. “She made me present.”

“Fuck that, he’s always been an alpha,” said Devlin. “You remember that night he was at Secrets with us—”

“That was you?” I said, looking him over, remembering. “Right, yeah, you somehow forced us all back into the car that night.” I shook my head. “A fucking alpha pack. With an omega. It’s—”

“You would not be in the pack,” said Devlin.

“Right,” I said with a shrug. I got out a cigarette. “What was I thinking?” I waved my hand at them, careless. “Well, take the omega and go, then. You got what you came for.”

“Wait,” said Eleri. “Do you really think it might be like that? That we should be a pack?”

Devlin turned to her. “Well, I don’t know, sweetling. You always say you only want me, and I think, if it were really right, you should want the others, too.”

Eleri’s scent changed. She smelled anxious, but she didn’t outwardly react. She put her hand on Devlin’s chest and leaned into him. “I do only want you,” she whispered up at him.

“Stop lying to him,” I said sharply. “Devlin, tell her that you want her to tell you the truth.”

Devlin rounded on me, angry. “I’ve never indicated to her that she should lie to me, you fucker. You don’t understand anything.”

I snorted, lighting my cigarette. “Look at her, look her in the eyes, and tell her that you want her to put her desires above your feelings. Tell her that and mean it. And then ask her.”
