“I love you,” he tells me, wrapping his arms around me.

I can feel his cock starting to harden and I grind against him. He groans, and I grin.

“I would love nothing more to take you back to bed, but I really have to get to work. I’ll be back soon. Today is my short shift.”

“Okay, I’ll keep the bed warm for you,” I purr up at him.

He groans again, and I giggle.

“You’re killing me, mate.”

“Go to work. I’ll be here when you get home.”

He drops a kiss on my lips and then heads into the bedroom to get dressed. I turn to face the mirror and drag a brush through my hair. I’m putting on some moisturizer when he comes back.

“Be back in a few hours.”

I nod, and he kisses me again before he leaves.

I take my time getting ready and I’m pulling on a pair of yoga pants when I hear a loud crash downstairs. The hairs on the back of my neck stand on end and I freeze, listening as the sound of wood splintering and cracking comes from below me.

“Crap,” I hiss as I dive for my phone and call Flint.

“Mate,” he answers, warmth in his voice.

“Someone is breaking in!” I tell him.

I can feel panic welling up in me.

“It has to be Roger, right? Who else would come here? Who else would break in?”

“Calm down, Sophie. I’m on my way.”

“We are,” I hear another guy add.

“Just stay on the line,” Flint tells me, and I gulp.

“They’re inside,” I whisper, and I can hear the engine on the other end of the line roar as Flint speeds up.

“We’re a minute away. I’ll be there soon. Just hang up.”

“They’re coming upstairs,” I whisper as I slide down to hide behind the bed.

“Go in the closet, Sophie. Hide there. I’m turning onto our road now.”

I do what he says and crawl over to the closet, closing the door quietly behind me. I can hear footsteps sounding downstairs as they look for me. Then they start climbing up the stairs.

I hold my breath as the footsteps get closer and closer.

I slam to a stop outside of my place. Alec is already hopping out of my car, and I hurry to do the same.

“You check downstairs!” I yell at him as we sprint up to the front door.

The door has been broken, and we both leap over the remains and split up. I take the stairs two at a time and head into our bedroom. I’m guessing that she’s in the closet there.
