“Fab!”

“Now I should let you go, though,” I force myself to say. “Sorry to interrupt your late-night web scroll.”

His smile disarms me, like it always does. “It was honestly a pleasure. Get some sleep so you can do good sportsing tomorrow.”

My chuckle is low and soft, which isn’t like me. “I’ll do that.”

The screen goes dark when we end the call, and I lock the phone for real this time and set it onto the floor.

I wonder what Carter would think if he knew how attractive I find him.

Nothing, probably. He probably has his pick of guys, all of them less messy than me.

Vibe check! What did you think of the living room chairs? I need to make a decision and schedule delivery.

Tommaso

I liked the blue one.

Wut???

The TOWELS were blue. I asked about the chairs.

Oops. Sorry. Chairs? I liked the brown one.

**head desk** They were ALL brown. They’re leather. Some were darker brown. Like cognac. Some were more of a caramel. But their shapes were different. And the scale.

But I can’t see the scale in these photos. And they were all fine. Pick one. My ass is going to be on the cloud couch anyway. The chair is for guests, and I almost never have those.

First let me reframe the question. Do you want your infrequent guests to sit on a chair that cost $1800 or one that cost $3600?

Pick the cheaper one. We are not snobs here.

Speak for yourself. I am very bougie. But I like the $1800 chair just fine, so that’s the one you’re getting.

Wait, was it cognac or caramel?

Is this a serious question?

No.

Then you can see it when it shows up.

Fine. We done? I gotta go do some sportsing now.

Done FOR NOW but I am shopping for beds today and I’m going to need you to look at them after you’re done sportsing.

I don’t care what the bed looks like. My eyes will be closed when I’m in it.

I get that. (Sort of?) But you might own this furniture for fifty years. If I pick one you don’t like, you’ll be cursing my name until I’m 75. So humor me and look at the beds.

I’ll look. But don’t be mad if I can’t tell them apart.
