My mood shifted watching Elgin get out and knock on the door. When a petite woman opened it and lunged herself in his arms, my heart stopped beating. I became so scared for her. She had no idea that she just invited the devil into her home.
“Luna.”
“Chill.” She started typing fast on her phone. “I got this.”
I couldn’t pull my eyes away. I wanted to get out and beat on the door and drag her out. Douse him in lighter fluid and watch that motherfucker burn to death.
“What did you do?” I looked around the neighborhood, taking in how spaced out the houses were of each other. If she screamed for help would they be able to hear her?
“Saving her.” She dropped her phone in her lap and sat up. Not even ten minutes later Elgin came running out on the phone going off. “There are ten funerals Dubri is orchestrating right now all around Broward. He’s the only one available if an emergency happens at the funeral home so I had somebody trip the alarms and made sure the alarm company called him.”
I’m surprised he came out of hiding for something so unimportant.
We ducked down when he sped past us. Luna wasted no time following him at a safe distance to where we weren’t noticed. I was so nervous. What if this didn’t go as planned? What if the alarm company sent the police out just in case?
By the time we pulled up on the side of the back entrance of the funeral, watching him park, I was shaking like a leaf.
“Here.” Luna handed me a black ski mask and I wanted to vomit. My hands were shaking so bad as I put it on. In my head, I kept repeating the lyrics to Big Gangsta hoping to channel some big gangsta energy cause I felt like a frightened poodle. “Girl, cover your hair. Stop acting like you don’t know what you’re doing.”
That’s the thing. I didn’t know what I was doing.
She started pulling the mask down over my head hard, jerking it every way. “Heffa, my daddy ain’t named Pacino Luciano.” I smacked her hands off me.
Ignoring me, she reached in that long black bag and pulled out two guns with silencers on the mouth. “Do you know how to shoot?”
Fed up with her testing my gangsta, I snatched one of the guns and cocked it. “Yes, Luna. We do have a gun range on the compound.”
“Thank goodness.” She sighed, dramatically rolling her eyes. “We’d be hopeless for real. These guns have no serial numbers nor are they traceable.” I wasn’t even going to ask. Her boyfriend was into some deep shit so I’m sure he’s the one that got them for her. “We’re going to go in there. Point and shoot. In and out, London.”
I looked around the back of the funeral home and my stomach became unsettled. This didn’t feel right. Not the killing Elgin part but us being here and doing it without anyone else knowing. If Cassian found out he was going to flip his shit.
Besides my nerves messing with me, we really had a clean mission. The parking lot was empty. The streets were deserted and Luna had the cameras deactivated an hour ago. Elgin was by himself. This was our opportunity.
“Okay, let’s… oh shit.” I squeaked low.
“What?” She started to panic. I pointed to where Elgin was coming out of the back door when a dark hooded figure snuck up behind him and started beating his ass.
I mean this person was dragging Elgin’s ass for dust. My excitement to see him getting his ass beat became cold shock when the person pulled out a gun and emptied his clip into Elgin’s body. Like our guns, his had a silencer. You wouldn’t know he was being shot unless you paid attention to his body jerking with each bullet that pierced his body. Picking up a metal bar, the person continued to beat him over and over.
Luna and I sat there stunned until we heard distant blares of sirens. She didn’t have to be told. Luna placed her car in drive and drove off heading straight to the compound. In shock, we sat in complete silence. Only thing I could hear was the pounding of my heart through my ears. When she pulled up to Cassian’s house, I gave her back all the supplies she’d given me. After she locked up everything in her trunk, we stood there staring at each other not knowing what to say. All I could do was hug her and watch her drive away.
My steps were heavy walking into the house. Cashton was baking cookies with the girls. All of the counters were covered with flour and dough. Once they felt my presence all of their faces lit up seeing me.
“Lolo, you’re home.” Melly cheered.
“We’re making you come home cookies and cake.” Tai danced.
“What’s wrong?” I couldn’t look at Cashton. His intense stare made me feel like he saw everything that just happened.
Blinking rapidly, I stood in the kitchen with my bottom lip trembling. Where was he? Where is Ca…
“Aye, what I told y’all about making…” All it took was one look for his entire disposition to change. My appearance activated his savage mode. “What happened?”
I swallowed my cry and I confessed to what I had just seen. “He’s dead.”
My Rib: A personal issue has come up.
My Rib: I need a few days to handle this. Please don’t be upset with me but I promise to explain once I come to you.
