“Explain!” I bark at her.
The headlights are our only source of light. They highlight her impassive face, one I once could have considered beautiful, but now I see the ugliness of her heart.
“She’s with her mate.” She turns to Sin, giving him a devious smile full of pure evil. “Your new step-mommy.”
All the blood rushes from Sin’s face as he falls to the ground.
“And her friend?” What was her name? “Violet.”
“A negotiation.” She shrugs before running her hands up and down her arms. “I’m cold.” She pouts, blinking at me.
“Thea.” Sin’s voice is a dangerous, vicious entity unto itself. “Thea.”
She sinks down before him, probably thinking he’s going to wrap her up in his arms. “Sin.”
“Let’s get something straight.” His eyes turn a deep green, his emotions spilling out of him. “I will never love you. I will never bond with you. In fact, I reject you.”
Rumor glances at me, and I him. Swallowing the emotion in my throat, I nod my agreement. “Thea, you weren’t the omega for our pack.” I feel guilty and wrong, but only because I don’t want to hurt her. However, she gave up Sawyer for her own selfish desires.
To Sin’s father.
I can never forgive her for that.
“Sawyer is our mate,” Rumor adds.
With each one of us rejecting her, Thea grows angrier. “He created me just for you!” she shouts at Sin. “I am the perfect omega!”
He. The doc.
Shock spreads through all of us. Sin is the first to react, knowing how delicate the situation is. “Thea, let’s get you somewhere safe, and we can talk.”
“You want to talk?” She takes a step back, her nostrils flaring. “You reject me, and then you want to talk?” she screams.
“Thea, think about Seraphina. She misses you. Let’s get you to the castle to see her. All right?” He holds up his hands, trying to keep her from freaking out.
“I don’t have a sister.” She turns around, and I see the moment she decides to run in her eyes.
I grab her before she can go anywhere and bark, “Sleep.” She continues to thrash, fighting my command. She said it herself, she is the perfect omega, which I guarantee means always listening to an alpha’s bark. Regret churns in me, but she’s going to hurt herself. “Sleep!”
She falls limp in my arms, and I just stand here, dumbfounded.
“That isn’t the woman I fell in love with.” Sin blinks at her with glassy eyes, the pain clear in those green depths. “I don’t know her.”
“Where are we taking them?” Rumor glances at the vans, where some girls peer out with curious eyes.
“I know a girl.” Sin runs his hands down his face, chuckling at the insanity of the moment. “As soon as we get off this damn mountain, I’ll call her.”
“Who?” I heft Thea up into my arms.
“Mila.” He rises from his knees. “That bastard broke her. He broke all of them. She’s the only one I know of who can help them.”
Blowing out a steady breath, I walk toward the van, pausing only once before turning around. “After that, I’m going to get my girl.”
“Our girl,” Rumor corrects, but there’s a pain there. “And your father?” he asks Sin.
“A long overdue problem that I’ll have to solve,” Sin states with conviction. “No more of this. I’m ending it now.”
Except this isn’t over. None of it is over.
