“Sawyer, we need to cross that ravine,” Bryn says, looking around the little spot we’ve hidden in. The walkie-talkie has been radio silent for hours as we waited for Rumor to recover a little. His adrenaline hit him hard, and I insisted he sleep for a bit.
Then we had lunch. Granola, yum.
The sarcasm is thick in my head.
“I know,” I whine, hating that it came out like that. A small part of me loves the way their attention sharpens on me with that little whine. I tug on the strands of my hair and glare at the bridge. “Fine.”
“Let’s go.” Sin hops up like a damn rabbit, tugs his pack on, and grabs my hand. “Come on, princess.” He grabs my pack and even buckles me in.
“I’m still not happy.” I scowl at Bryn and Rumor, who look at each other, probably for patience.
At least Rumor has color in his face again and he’s no longer wincing.
“By the time we get to the bridge, it will almost be dark,” he grumbles. “We wasted a whole day because of that fall.”
“It’s probably better that we did,” Bryn states. “By now, they have come across that camp. The walkie-talkie has been silent for too long, so they must know we compromised it.”
Sin begins to hum and walks off, bobbing his head. That’s when I see a device in his ear.
“Sin,” I hiss and tug him backward and yank the earbud out. “The fuck?”
“You idiot.” Rumor grabs the earbud and chucks it over the edge and into the water below.
“The hell was that for?” Sin questions, and I can see when he debates launching himself over the edge to go after his earbud.
“Where is the music coming from?” Bryn pats him down, running his hands over his body and checking his pockets.
“If you wanted to feel me up, you didn’t even have to ask.” Sin leans closer to him to whisper, “Sometimes, I like it when I’m taken.”
“Can you” —Bryn’s movements become jerky— “for one minute” —his hand slips into his back pocket, making Sin smile and jerk his hips into Bryn— “not think with your dick?” He pulls out an old-school portable radio.
“No,” Sin answers. At least he is honest.
“I can work with this.” Bryn actually looks excited about the radio. “I can see if I can find what frequency they are on.”
“So you’re saying that I saved the day?” Sin smiles smugly.
I’m pretty sure Bryn will snap and deck him, but instead, he leans in and whispers something in his ear that I can’t hear.
I turn to Rumor, curious. He tilts his head to the side, and there’s a devious smirk on his face that he tries to hide behind his palm.
“What did you say?” I ask, stepping close to them to see Sin’s face. “You’re blushing.” I slap Bryn’s shoulder. “What did you say?”
The two pull apart, but they don’t answer me.
“That…” Sin clears his throat. “Well, princess, it’ll be a show, I’ll tell you that much.”
“It involves your dick, doesn’t it?” I frown. “Bryn, you just told him to stop thinking with his dick, and here you are, encouraging him to think with his dick.” I toss my hands up.
That’s when the first twinge begins in my gut.
“Oh no.” My face falls, and I look at the guys in panic.
“What is it?” All three turn around to peer out into the woods, looking for a threat.
It’s a shame the threat is my lady parts. “I’m going to begin bleeding,” I whisper and cross my legs as though that will prevent the blood from gushing out of me. It won’t.
Even worse is the fact that it will lead anyone and anything to me because I’m going to smell like a fresh kill.
