I headed straight to the parking lot to find my car and drove home. When I walked through the front door, my mother looked up from where she sat on the sofa, reading a book. “Jaxon, where have you been? Out with friends?” She pursed her lips when I nodded. “I hope you’ve finished all of your homework. I noticed that you’re slipping a little in AP Chemistry. You got a 93% on your last quiz.”

I rolled my eyes. I’d missed one damn question because I’d misunderstood the wording. Everyone in the entire class missed the question, and Ms. Styles was going to throw it out and adjust everyone’s grades. She wasn’t quick enough for my parents, though.

I opened my mouth to explain the situation when my mother spoke again. “You know, Tyson spent a lot more time with his studies than you do. He didn’t waste so much time with friends.”

I clenched my jaw and my fists and headed up to my room without another word. With Kinley, I wasn’t fun or hot enough. With my parents, I wasn’t smart or dedicated enough. I was so fucking tired of not being enough.

I survived my girls’ day, and I cooked dinner for everyone at the beach house. Jaxon helped. Fucking sweetheart. He went grocery shopping with me while everyone else plopped their lazy asses down on the beach. Then he carried all the bags inside and started slicing potatoes without me even saying a word. It made me want to rip his clothes off and ride him on the kitchen counter.

I’d always loved J in one way or another. In elementary school, if my parents ever jokingly asked who I was going to marry, I’d give them an incredulous look and say, “Jaxon.” In middle school, he was my happy place. In high school, he was my safe place. Tonight, though, was different. There was nothing safe or happy about the fire in his eyes.

Jaxon had me so damn hot. I couldn’t even watch his hands while he sliced vegetables without drooling. What the actual hell was I thinking when I rubbed myself all over him last night? Jaxon was way too good for me, and he couldn’t be in love with me. Lyla just liked to screw with people.

Fuck it. I would take every last bit of Jaxon I could get. I’d worry about the heartbreak later.

When dinner was ready, and everyone gathered at the table, I sank into the chair beside Jaxon and pressed my leg into his. While we ate and chatted, I inched one hand up his thigh. Before the meal was even half over, I had my palm against his cock. I bit my lip and grinned when I felt it grow and stiffen in his jeans.

“What are you smiling at, Kinley?” Lyla raised an eyebrow at me. “Selena was talking about her dog dying. What the hell is wrong with you?”

“What? I’m so sorry!” I jerked my hand off of Jaxon’s lap and placed it back in my own.

Selena frowned and said, “No, I was—“

Lyla burst out laughing. “I’m fucking with you. You clearly haven’t been paying attention to a word anyone has said during dinner. What’s up with you? New guy?”

I rolled my eyes and tossed a dinner roll at Lyla’s face. Beckett caught it and took a big bite. “Maybe.” I shrugged.

“Okay, spill!” Lyla grinned at me and let her eyes drift to Jaxon for a split second. He was looking down at his plate and didn’t see Lyla’s glance.

“I don’t kiss and tell.” I sipped my water.

Lyla burst out laughing. “Since when?”

“Since now.” You didn’t spill intimate details about a guy like Jaxon. He was too good for that.

“Bullshit, Kinley!” Lyla spoke to me but stared Jaxon down. “Jax, how’s Kinley’s bed?”

“Pretty standard, Lyla. It has two pillows, sheets, a couple of blankets. It’s comfortable, too. How are Beckett’s balls?”

Preston snorted. Selena wrinkled her nose, and Lyla shot Beckett a death glare. “You fucking told them?”

Beckett grimaced. “I didn’t mean to! It just came out!”

“You little piece of shit. I’m not doing it tonight now.”

I shot Jaxon a grateful smile. For once, my sex life wasn’t the topic of conversation, thanks to his quick deflection.

The conversation moved on after Lyla forgave Beckett, but I was still thinking about the feeling of Jaxon’s hard dick under my palm. I was still aching to mount him. Was the attention safely off of us? Could we escape to my bedroom?

“I’m exhausted!” I announced, standing up from the dinner table. I attempted to give Jaxon a subtle look to let him know I wasn’t tired at all and wanted him to come with me.

Jaxon’s eyes met mine, then settled on my tits. “I’m actually pretty tired, too.” He stood and started stacking dishes.

Lyla placed her hand over his. “It’s our turn to do dishes, right, Bec?”
