Jaxon leaned against the doorway and folded his arms. “James, go fuck yourself.” Then he smiled at me. “Hey, K.”

I smiled back. “Hey, J.”

“Come here.”

My feet carried me across the room, where Jaxon pulled me into his arms and kissed me slow and sweet. If all of his co-workers weren’t staring at us when I walked in, they were now. J backed into his office, pulling me with him and shutting the door behind us.

His co-worker pounded on the door, laughing. “I’m going to have to call HR if you have sex in there, Jaxon!”

“Shut up, James. We’re not going to have sex in my office with all of you idiots standing outside the door.” But to me, he whispered, “Or maybe we will.” J pulled me back into his arms for another kiss. “So, what’s this about? Did you miss me already?”

I nodded and rested my forehead against his. “I got tired of editing and thought we could do a quick lunch date. I probably should have called first. I know you like to plan stuff, but I wanted to surprise you.”

“I do like to plan stuff, but I love your surprises. You remind me that every second of life doesn’t have to be planned out.” He kissed my nose and then my lips. “Let me wrap up what I was working on, and then we can go. Is that cool?”

I nodded and sat on the edge of his desk. “So it’s not weird that I showed up at your office?”

“Nope. You’re my girlfriend, K.” Jaxon’s eyes traveled up my legs, followed by both of his hands. He played with the hem of my romper. “Is this new?”

“Yeah. You like it?”

Jaxon shrugged. “It looks hard to get off, but you do look sexy as hell, and all of my co-workers probably think I’m a God now.” He let out a slow deep breath. “You promoted my status here.”

I laughed and rolled my eyes. “Is, um, is Savannah here today?” My words were supposed to be nonchalant, but Jaxon grinned at me. He knew me too well.

He leaned back in his chair and smirked. “I’m not sure. I haven’t seen her today. Do you want to go make out right outside of her office, so she knows I’m yours?”

I rolled my eyes, then smirked back at him. “Kinda. But that’s petty and mean.”

“K?” Jaxon was still smiling.

“What?”

“You know I love the shit out of you, right? You’re it.” He patted his lap. “Come here.”

I straddled him in his chair and grabbed his face with both hands. “Sorry. My insecurities are probably sexy as hell.”

“It’s kinda cute that you’re a little jealous.”

I sighed and rested my forehead against his. “No, it’s not. Jealousy isn’t cute.”

“Psycho jealousy isn’t cute. This mild possessiveness is adorable, K.”

I pressed my lips against his, and Jaxon slid his hands down to grip my ass. “Mmm…” he moaned softly. “I changed my mind. I hate your outfit. I can’t get inside.”

A stupid, jealous question popped into my head. Had Jaxon and Savannah ever had sex in his office? Ugh. Don’t ask it. Don’t ask it. Keep your big mouth shut, Kinley.

I bit my lip. Jaxon told me he didn’t care about all the other guys I’d been with. Since we started dating, he hadn’t brought them up once. God-damn it. I needed to be better for him. I wasn’t going to say another word about Savannah. The past was the past for both of us. I kissed him and slid off his lap. “Next time I visit you at work, I’ll wear a skirt with no panties.” I walked over to his window and gazed out at the mid-day traffic.

Jaxon smiled. “Thank you, K. That would make things so much easier.” He turned back to his computer. “Give me like five, and then we can go.” His fingers flew across his keyboard for a few minutes, then he stood, stretched, and said, “You want pizza?”

“That sounds great.”

On our way out, we ran into Savannah in the lobby. I wanted to kiss J or grab his ass or something, but the pain in her pale eyes stopped me. I recognized the look. It was the same one I’d seen in Jaxon’s eyes every time I showed up somewhere with another boyfriend.

I glanced over at J and saw the discomfort all over his face. He was a good guy that didn’t enjoy hurting people. He didn’t want to be in this situation. I wouldn’t make it worse for him. I squeezed his hand and gave Savannah a half-smile. “I’ll wait outside.”

Savannah looked like she wanted to scratch my eyes out or maybe throw up. I couldn’t blame her. Jaxon Wood was as good as it got.
