One glance at Macarius’s face told me the rest of the room had ceased to exist. His eyes were glowing as they traveled down her bare back.
Macarius leaned forward, and I wasn’t surprised when he curled his fingers around her hips—because it is exactly what I would have done if she’d been sitting naked on my leg.
The Ellora we’d brought home had been scared, exhausted, and little more than a shadow of this bold beauty sitting confidently in Macarius’s lap.
“Ellora! Please tell us you haven’t let these beasts drool on your skin and paw at you.” The muscles in Henry’s jaw flexed.
Ellora’s anger brought color to her pale cheeks, and with her blue hair falling wildly around her face, she looked like an avenging goddess.
None of us could have anticipated what was about to happen.
Without breaking eye contact with Henry, Ellora lifted her arm and reached behind her. She ran her fingers through Macarius’s short beard before moving her hand to cradle the back of his head.
“It just so happens I love their doggy slobber.” Her defiance was adorable as she guided Mac to her neck.
My brother didn’t need to be asked twice. Leaning forward, he pressed his lips to her skin.
Macarius’s chest vibrated with a guttural moan, and his arm snaked around her middle. He slid her up his thigh until her back was pressed against his chest.
All the while, he continued to kiss and lap at the delicate skin of her neck, having forgotten that anyone else existed other than the rabbit shifter on his lap.
“Oh!” Ellora’s eyes widened with surprise, then darkened with desire. “Ooooh…”
“Tell the animal to get his mouth off you before he starts humping you like the wild beast he is.” Brett yanked hard against his restraints. “Your body is for our pleasure, and you’re letting him taint it.”
“Ellora! Are you listening?” Jay snarled. “You will obey us! Come here now!”
For the first time since Ellora had shifted to her human form, Macarius’s eyes focused on the four men struggling to free themselves.
“Ellora isn’t a pet to be ordered around and amuse you,” Macarius said between placing hungry kisses along her bare shoulder.
“You know nothing about our ways!” Henry shrieked, his skin becoming mottled with barely contained rage. “She belongs to us, and we have the papers to prove it!”
“Wrong. Ellora can do whatever she pleases.” Macarius’s voice held a note that had me glancing at Coda in concern.
“And where do you get off thinking you have any right to weigh in on a personal matter?” Brett had managed to get to his knees, and the veins in his neck bulged as he strained against the chains.
These men weren’t used to being told no, and it showed.
“Because Ellora is mine, and she has the bite to prove it.” I watched in shock as Macarius sank his sharp canines into the tender flesh of Ellora’s neck.
By marking her, Ellora had become a wolf’s mate, and wolves believed mates were priceless treasures rather than property.
The rabbit shifters might have the power that comes with money and status, but Ellora had a pack of wolves ready to protect her if these men dared to touch a single hair on her head.
“Call the alpha and have him take custody of these men until the Greenbriar burrow can be contacted.” Macarius’s voice was rough, making the words hard to understand.
Not waiting for a response, he used his unnatural speed to blur from the room, taking Ellora with him.
The living room descended into chaos, with the clattering of chains and the rabbits’ shouted threats… but it barely registered.
All I could think about was how Macarius had marked my mate.
I was going to kill him.
Macarius spun me in his arms so I faced him and my mouth was at the same height as his. With our size difference, this meant my legs were wrapped around him mid-chest rather than around his waist like a normal couple.
But we weren’t a normal couple. Not by any stretch of the imagination.
