Macarius tightened his grip on my hips and began grinding my aching core against his chest. He didn’t stop until my breathing was coming in short gasps.

“Look at me.” He growled the order, and this time, I lifted my chin to meet his glowing brown eyes. “That’s a good girl.”

My body trembled, and I nearly came undone at those words.

“Never feel bad about your body’s reactions. It is natural and beautiful.” Macarius’s finger brushed against my core, sending a jolt through my body. He slid his finger along my slit and then lifted the finger to his mouth. “And just as delicious as I knew you would be.”

My body burned hotter as I watched his tongue lick my wetness from his finger. When he finished, his hand moved back to my hip.

“Now put your arms around my neck, keep your eyes on mine, and use me.” Macarius’s orders were doing crazy things to my body.

And in a lust-filled daze, I obeyed him. Wrapping my arms around his neck, I used his shoulders to lift myself slightly so I could find the friction I craved.

The hardest part was keeping my eyes on his face, but I couldn’t deny having him watch me as I pleasured myself was wildly erotic. My body was too sensitive and far too worked up to last long.

“Macarius!” I hissed his name, and my back arched as pleasure exploded through me.

“So beautiful,” he growled, holding me tight between him and the wall as I twitched with orgasmic aftershocks. His lips found my skin, tasting and sucking up the column of my neck. “Mine.”

That single word pulled me from the fog of bliss.

“Macarius?” I caught his face between my palms. “I’m so sorry!”

Confused, he lifted a single eyebrow. “You have nothing to be sorry for.”

“Because I’ve made a mess of everything! I was furious listening to my matched throwing insults at you, Coda, and Quin. All I could think about was proving how wrong they were and making them angry.” I hesitated, then confessed, “That isn’t the whole truth.”

“Color me intrigued.” Macarius wrapped his arms around me and moved to sit on the large bed. “Let’s hear it, my love.”

He kept saying I belonged to him, but as much as I wanted that to be true, I feared I’d trapped him in a one-sided bond.

Taking a deep breath, I bared my soul. “The truth is, being on your lap—petted and protected—it was a turn-on. Seeing my fluffle lose their crap when they realized I wasn’t under their control was thrilling. They made me feel worthless, as though they were doing me a favor when they gave me a few minutes of their time.”

Macarius’s jaw clenched, and his eyes narrowed.

Worried I would lose my nerve, I rushed to finish what I needed to say before he tossed me out on my bum for trapping him. “Macarius, I was already desperate to feel your touch on my human skin. Then I got caught up in the moment, and I wanted them to feel powerless as they watched you kiss me—as they watched someone else touch what they would never have again. It was unfair of me to use you like that.”

Macarius twisted around, dropping my back on the pale blue linen bedspread and pinning me beneath his huge, tanned body. “You didn’t use me. But here’s what you need to understand, darling. I want you to use me. I want you to take whatever you want or need from me. I’m yours.”

Tears filled my eyes, blurring my vision. “But what if I can’t claim you and complete the bond? I was matched with Brett, Henry, Jay, and Edward. It was an arranged mating that had nothing to do with love. My heat came before I could run. When I was at my most vulnerable, my parents handed me off to my matched. I tried to resist, but I’d been in agony, and the heat stirred my instincts to mate into a frenzy. In an effort to escape the pain and lost to the heat, I accepted their bodies.” Not wanting to see the disgust on his face now that he knew of my shame, I covered my face with my hands.

“Ellora, you aren’t weak.” Macarius nuzzled my neck. “I heard you threaten to cut off a man’s balls and wear them. You didn’t have to shift form, but you did because you wanted to defend us. Then you took it further by showing them that they’d not only lost today’s fight, but they’d lost you. That’s what a warrior queen would’ve done when looking down on her captured enemies.”

Macarius didn’t think I was weak. He understood the battle I’d faced going against natural instincts, and didn’t judge me for doing what I needed to do to survive. Having such a powerful man reaffirm my inner strength helped repair my damaged confidence.

“One minute, I was petting a silky soft bunny, and the next, I had a naked woman straddling my leg.” Grabbing my wrists in a single hand, he stretched my arms above my head, and his voice dropped to a husky growl that caused my body to clench with renewed need. “Darling, the raw sexiness you exuded nearly stopped my heart. It took all my control to keep my wolf from taking you on the spot. The only thing stopping me had been my need to know that you wanted me.”

“Macarius, the human side doesn’t get a say about claiming when being bred during heat. Our shifter latches onto the male, or males, who help us through our heat. She then claims them as her mates.” The words tasted bitter on my tongue. “That’s what happened during my heat.”

“I despise those men, but I will keep myself from killing them if they are your mates. It will be hard to share you with another man, let alone those men, but as long as I am chained when you are with them, we can make it work.” The pleading in his eyes broke my heart.

“You would do that for me?” I’d gone from men who were annoyed by my requests to create a nest to having an intimidating predator offer to chain himself if only I would keep him.

“It’s more complicated than that. Male rabbits do get a choice, and my matched chose not to claim me in return. Even though our bond wasn’t completed, and my inner bunny no longer acknowledges them as her mates, I’m still experiencing the effects of being away from them. I refuse to go back to them, but from what the elders taught us, that means things are going to get worse for me.”

Macarius released my wrists and scooted down the bed to rest his cheek against my belly. “How much worse?” he whispered.

“Let’s just say I’ll be a boss babe running my very own fertilizer and worm bait business before too long.” I forced a laugh and tried to push some humor into my tone.
