He bucked hard against me, his eyes glazed with lust.

My body was literally milking the orgasm from him, but I couldn’t tell him that since I still couldn’t remember how to speak.

It didn’t matter, because with the next thrust, his muscles tightened and he roared my name. I stared down at Macarius and my chest warmed. He was the first man to mark me as his.

When the aftershocks ended, I slid off Macarius. Unsure what to do, I sat beside him on the edge of the bed. He rose from the bed and disappeared into a small washroom that was connected to his bedroom.

He returned to the bed with a warm, wet cloth. Kneeling on the floor in front of me, he used the cloth to wipe away the sticky evidence of our lovemaking.

“I need you to open your thighs, darling.”

Unable to believe what he was doing, I parted my thighs a bit wider. I was exposed to him, but I was too caught off guard to be embarrassed as Macarius gently cleaned me.

When he finished, his hands moved to my leg that had been bitten by the rogue. The wounds had closed, but the skin around the bite mark had turned a dark plum color and the swelling hadn’t gone down. It would be healed by morning.

Once he finished inspecting my calf, his eyes moved up my body. Regret flashed across his face when he caught sight of the marks that had been left by his fingers digging into my hips. Leaning forward, he placed a tender kiss over each mark.

“They will be gone within hours.” I hated for him to be upset over marks he’d left during the height of our passion. Besides, I knew he’d wear marks from my nails and teeth if he helped me through my next heat. “Feel free to let your wolf play a bit rougher next time.”

“I’ll consider it.” He brushed his lips against mine and stood.

After depositing the cloth into the laundry basket, he lay down on the bed on his side. We remained quiet for several minutes before he spoke.

“Is something wrong?” His brow was creased as he searched my face.

“I’m not sure what I’m supposed to do now.” My stomach clenched uncomfortably.

Raising himself onto his left elbow, he reached out with his right hand to play with a strand of my hair. “What do you normally do?”

“Usually, the men visited my room when they had, um, well needs…” I swallowed hard. “When they finished, they left.”

“I don’t understand.” Macarius shook his head. “Are you saying they didn’t share a bed with you? You were left alone?”

I nodded.

He gathered me into his arms. “Never again. I want you in my arms, and in our bed, every night for the rest of our lives.”

I couldn’t help the happy tears that slid down my cheeks and splashed onto his bare chest.

Macarius settled us back onto the bed and tucked the blanket around me. “Sleep well, little mate.”

“You better open this door and let us in!” Coda’s angry shouts roused me from sleep.

“Not by the hair of your chinny chin chin,” Macarius mumbled, his voice husky with sleep.

At my giggle, he cracked open one eyelid to look at me. Seeing I was awake, his arm snaked around my waist and pulled me close.

I pressed my body against him and rested my cheek on his bare chest. “It’s even better than I imagined.”

“What’s even better, pet?” He kissed the top of my head, and his hand snuck down to cup my bare butt.

“Snuggling.” I tilted my head so I could look up at him. “And sharing a bed with my mate.”

Macarius held me tight, and I thought I heard him whisper something about murder. “We’ll take you to the store so you can get whatever you want for the house to make you more comfortable. I’m not sure what type of sheets and blankets you prefer.”

“We can hear that you’re awake! Open the door before we take it down.” Quin hit the door hard enough that it shook.

“I’m enjoying a morning with my mate. Can I ignore you another time?” Macarius called.
