“But how’d you get here?”

“Got a cab. It’s really alright, babe. I figured something had happened.”

I frowned and pouted, “I really wanted to get you from the airport. I’m sorry.”

“You’re doing some heavy lifting babe. You need all the rest you can get.” Graham went down on his knees, and grabbed my t-shirt, pulling it up and over my stomach. “No need to apologize. Just glad you’re up now, and dinner will be ready soon. Not until I greet my babies, though.” He splayed kisses over my stomach, and I grinned. It felt good to have him home. He stood to his feet and snaked his hands through my hair, then passionately kissed me, all while the food on the stove continued to cook.

“I missed this,” Graham whispered. “I missed you.”

“I missed you,” I replied, running my hands up the back of his shirt while we went back to kissing, his tongue teasing mine and seducing me. “The food’s going to burn,” I reminded between tender kisses.

“What food?” Graham asked, still letting the kiss grow in intensive heat. What food indeed?

Chapter 27

Graham

I paced back and forth in front of Cooper, pausing for only a few seconds to glance at my watch. I then proceeded to pace even further.

“You’re going to wear a hole out in the carpet,” Cooper replied.

I hesitated and turned to face him. “I can’t help it. If the doctor doesn’t come in soon, I’ll miss my flight, but I don’t want to miss this. I’ve already missed all the others.”I sighed trying not to think about it. I wasn’t sure how much longer our situation could go on. I was ready to move to LA. I didn’t want to miss any more moments with him.

Cooper snickered. “Your flight isn’t until tomorrow afternoon.”

“Precisely. How long have we been here?”

“About five minutes,” Cooper teased.

I threw up my arms. “It’s more like ten.” Then started pacing again.

“Geesh, if I didn’t know better, I would say that maybe you were the one that was having this baby. You’re so on edge.”

Cooper shifted on the exam table and made a noise. I rushed to the side of his table. “Are you alright? Do you feel sick? Perhaps you’re going into labor already? Should I go drag the doctor here?”

I started to turn, but Cooper reached out and grabbed my arm. “Graham, I’m fine. I just had a slight twinge in my back. It isn’t easy carrying this load around, but it’s only going to get harder. Just relax.”

I smiled and nodded. He was right. I needed to calm the fuck down because my nervousness was liable to give Cooper anxiety, and he didn’t need that as long as he was carrying the child. I just was excited. Nervous and excited. I was happy I would get to see the baby’s ultrasound, and we would find out if it were a boy or a girl. It was every father’s dream, and I was living the ultimate one.

At the sound of a knock on the door, and I jumped up from the chair that I had finally landed on. “Come in!” Cooper called, then reached out and grabbed my hand. The doctor opened up the door and peeked his head inside.

“Good afternoon! I’m Dr. Finch, and I’ll be showing you your baby’s picture today. How are you feeling?”

“Nervous,” I said.

Cooper laughed. “I believe he was talking to me. I’m feeling well, Dr. Finch. But yes, Graham here is a nervous wreck.”

“That’s understandable,” the doctor said, sitting down on a stool and rolling it closer to the bed. “First-time parents, I presume?”

“Yes.” Cooper looked up at me and smiled. “And we couldn’t be any happier,” he continued.

I released the breath I’d been holding, letting the nerves try to dissipate as quickly as possible. I squeezed Cooper’s hand and leaned in closer to him, waiting for the doctor to do his magic.

“I’m going to use some lubricant gel on the receiver, then rub this wand on your belly. It might be cold at first, but we’ll shortly see a picture on the monitor. Any questions before I start?”

We both shook our heads, and I was in awe as he lubricated the wand and then moved it across Cooper’s stomach. I held my breath, anxiously waiting for the moment we would hear a heartbeat or see a picture, but the time seemed to tick on by slowly.

“What’s wrong?” I asked, moving in closer to the monitor. “Why aren’t we seeing anything?”
