Felix wanted to crowd in and brush Jonah’s silky hair out of his eyes. He wanted to rub his thumb across Jonah’s cheek and see Jonah’s dark eyes slip closed with pleasure. He wanted to feel his quiet gasp against his mouth as their lips touched for the first time.

“Felix?” Jonah whispered, his brows drawing together as he studied Felix’s face. He slid a little closer, their knees touching under the covers.

Maybe Jonah could see Felix’s desire written all over him. At this point, Felix didn’t care. “Yeah?” he rasped, breath held with anticipation.

“Felix—”

The sharp, shrill ring of the hotel phone jolted them apart and made Felix curse under his breath, annoyed at the terrible timing. He sat up and answered the call as pleasantly as he could manage but when the woman at the front desk was done with her spiel, he said, “Thank you. You won’t need to call again tomorrow morning. I’ll make sure my fiancé is awake.”

And hung up.

When he turned back to face Jonah, he was sitting up too, staring at Felix slack-jawed.

“There’s a reason I get wakeup calls, you know,” Jonah sputtered.

“Yeah, I know.” Felix shot him a grin. “But like I said, I’ll make sure you’re awake from here on out. You won’t need a wakeup call anymore. Trust me.”

“Yeah, yeah. I’m up, I’m up.” Jonah sat upright, the covers pooling low on his waist. He glanced over at Felix. “Sorry about the call. I know you don’t sleep through alarms the way I do. Honestly, you waking me up was way nicer than a phone call though.”

“Well, good,” Felix managed. “It looked like you were about to say something before the front desk called though. What was it?”

Jonah shrugged and slid out of bed, turning away. “It was nothing. Don’t worry about it.”

Felix sighed, annoyed that whatever that moment had been about, the opportunity had been wasted.

Then again, neither of them had brushed their teeth yet. Maybe it was just as well they’d been interrupted.

If Felix was going to kiss Jonah for the first time, he wanted it to be good.

Besides, they’d be sharing a bed on road trips for the foreseeable future. There would be plenty of other opportunities.

“So. We’ve got about three hours before we need to leave for the arena,” Jonah said as the rideshare pulled up to the hotel and they got out.

“Yeah?” Felix tapped something on his phone screen. Probably leaving a tip for the driver.

“Uhh, you planning a pregame nap?” Jonah asked as casually as he could manage as they walked through the front doors into the hotel lobby.

“Well, yeah. Like always.” Felix shrugged. “Why?”

“Oh, um. Well, I was wondering if—”

“Hey, how was your date?” Matty jogged up, grinning at them both.

Jonah resisted the urge to smack his teammate. “Our what?”

“Your pregame date. You guys go to the botanical garden and out for lunch together, right?”

“Right,” Jonah said faintly.

Today they’d gone to the Jardin Botanique de Montréal. It was an enormous garden that was part of the Montreal Space for Life—Canada’s largest natural sciences museum complex.

Jonah always meant to come here in the summer and immerse himself in the place when he didn’t have a time limit but never seemed to get around to it.

Still, even the time they’d spent there today was enough to settle the restlessness he’d felt since he’d woken up to Felix looking at him like … well, like he wanted to kiss Jonah.

Jonah might be oblivious sometimes but he was pretty sure he knew what it meant when a man looked at him with his lips parted and his gaze soft but heated.

Jonah would swear that meant kiss me.
