I ran out of the office, looking for my guards. I see Mateo and ask, “Where are they?”

“Ms. Masters took Anna to watch a movie in the theater.” Moving double time, I get to the movie room and slide the doors open.

When I see the sight before me, my heart melts. They are watching a Disney movie, or rather Lucy is watching because Anna’s curled up in a pillow and blanket asleep. I ignore her guard, who is sitting on the end seat, looking bothered to be in there.

“Lucy, I’m sorry. I lost track of time.”

“You don’t owe me an apology. I’m not the one you disappointed. In fact, I expected that of you. It’s her little heart that’s crushed, and if you can’t keep promises, don’t make them to her.”

“You need to not speak to the Boss like that,” Anna’s guard snaps.

“Soto, it’s perfectly fine. I need to carry Anna to bed, so you’re off duty for the night.”

“Goodnight, Boss.” She practically says it with too much sugar that I’m thrown off.

Ignoring that woman, I scoop up my niece and do my best not to wake her up. “Follow me upstairs, so we can tuck her in.”

Lucy holds the door open while I cradle Anna. Honestly, I felt terrible about breaking my promise, but it’s nothing to the sucker punch of Lucy’s words. Her reminder that she doesn’t want to be here, and that she hates me is enough for me to pull back.

We barely make it to the stairs when my temper gets the better of me. “You can go to your room and I can tuck her in,” I say.

She huffs and marches past her door. “No, I don’t want her to be frightened if I’m not there.”

“She has nothing to fear from me, Ms. Masters.” I want to pin her ass to the wall and show her she’s driving me insane.

“Don’t take your anger out on me. If you’re pissed, go ahead, and send me home.” I bite my tongue, stopping the promise that she’ll never be going back to the school or to her father’s because she’s home now.

When we reach Anna’s room, the guard is doing a patrol nearby. “Open the door, Oscar.”

“Yes, Mr. Leone.” He opens it, and I nod my head for Lucy to go first. She does and walks to the bed to pull back the covers. I set down my niece and then lifted the thin sheets over her. Even though it’s summer, it’s quite cool in the mansion.

“Aunt Lucy,” Anna sighs. “See, Uncle Niccolò is here.”

“Yes, sweetheart. It’s time for bed, though. Tomorrow we’ll continue our fun and maybe try something else to keep us busy.”

“I want to go to the zoo.”

“We’ll see.” Lucy lifts her gaze to me and scowls, thinking I’m going to fuck off and just lie to her.

“Goodnight.” We both kiss her cheeks and then turn off the light and leave the nightlight on before walking out of the bedroom. I take Lucy’s hand and drag her down to her bedroom, opening the door and closing it behind us.

“Listen, I said I was sorry about earlier.”

“Yes, that’s not the fucking point. Just like every person in her life, you do what you want and then forget about her when it’s convenient, like her happiness doesn’t matter at all. Build her trust just to quickly teach her no one can be trusted, not even those that claim they love you.”

It takes me a moment longer to comprehend that she’s not talking about Anna. Someone broke her trust with empty promises. If I’m right, it’s the bastard I hate, making me despise him even more if that was remotely possible.

“Baby, I will definitely take care of what’s mine,” I growl, cupping her face before my mouth lands on hers.

I carry her over to the bed and pin her down, sliding my hands up and down her legs. “You have no idea how much I want to be inside your warmth right now. You want that too, don’t you?”

“No. I don’t.”

“You little liar. Admit it.”

“It’s wrong.”

“The fuck it is,” I snarl. I cup her ass and grind my hips against her mound. “Tell me you want my cock, baby.”
