Fucking excuse me? She what? At your place?
Apparently your dad gave her this address. She’s a delightful woman.
Ellie
She’s a bitch, I know it, and if you’ve talked to her, you definitely know it.
You said it, not me. But no lies were detected.
She blamed me for your divorce.
Ellie
FML. I’m so sorry.
Don’t be. I told her off and then shut the door in her face. So… sorry about that.
Ellie
Fuck, you’re even more perfect than I could’ve dreamed.
See you soon.
When I head back into the living room, I see Addy is awake now, back to watching Sing. I’m glad she slept through her grandmother visiting; I’d feel like a huge asshole if I yelled at her grandma in front of her.
“Hey, little one, have a good nap?” I chuckle as I sit next to her on the couch.
“I did. It’s comfy,” Addy says, playing with her hair. “Do you know how to braid, T-Rex?”
“I don’t. I’m sorry,” I say, bummed at the sad look in her eyes as she plays with her ponytail.
“My mommy sometimes braids my hair. Daddy never does. He tells me to have Lena do it, but I don’t like her.”
Smart girl. From what I hear, she’s a snake.
“I’ll learn, okay?”
Her eyes light up as she smiles up at me. “Promise?”
“Pinky promise,” I say, holding my pinky up as she links with mine.
Just like her mother, this girl is quickly stealing my heart.
By the time Ellie makes it home, Addy is asleep, and I’m well on my way to joining her as we watch Bluey for what feels like forever. Ellie is worn out too, so even though I suggested they just stay the night, Ellie insisted Addy should get a good night’s sleep in her bed.
Now that they’re both gone and on the other side of this wall, my apartment feels empty and lonely, and I hate it. Instead of going to my room, I find myself back on the couch watching Bluey, wishing the girls were with me.
Pulling up a group chat, I type a quick text out with an S.O.S.
Help. I need to learn to braid. Sawyer, can you teach me?
Sawyer
Why do you need to learn to braid?
But, yes, I can teach you.
