A slight smile curved those incredible lips, small but utterly real in a way that made him ache. How many women had smiled at him with such sincerity in the last few years? Not many, he'd wager.
"You're very welcome. Look me up the next time you need to get some rest. I can ignore your publicist with the best of them."
"He really is very nice," Samyar said vaguely. "He's a mountain climber when things are normal, usually very good at his job..."
Diane laughed with surprise, a sparkle in her eyes that made him think of stars.
"That sounds great. I look forward to meeting him sometime."
Abir was a tall man with a painstakingly groomed goatee who was incredibly popular with women. Samyar decided that that wasn't happening.
"Maybe," he said. "But I should get back to work."
"I think I'm going to stay here a while," she said. "You know. Watch the fish. Things like that."
"Ah, of course."
There was really nothing else to say to that. Samyar nodded, and turned to walk away down the garden path. When he sneaked a look back at her, Diane was only looking at the water, her arms wrapped around herself as if she was cold.
