"It's... it's good that you are saying that to me now, I guess. I know what we did in the past, and I am afraid of what might happen in the future."
"Don't be afraid of the future," Samyar urged. "I am here. I want to be. I am staying with you."
There was something troubled in her eyes, something that alarmed him, but Diane smiled. It was a small thing, and there was something pained in it, but it was real, and she planted a soft kiss on his forehead.
"I'm glad. And we will talk about it. But maybe not tonight? I'm not even out of my first trimester yet. What about talking in a week? My first trimester will be done, and then it'll be a little safer to plan for the future, all right?"
Samyar hated every reminder that Diane's was considered a high risk pregnancy, for all that she was so healthy and getting the best care. It was something he had to face, however, and he nodded reluctantly.
"All right. But we should do that soon, all right?"
"Absolutely. We can both gather our thoughts, consider what we want and how we want it. We'll reconvene in a week and discuss all matters that have been tabled now."
Samyar shuddered at Diane using the meeting talk he heard all day, but he smiled.
"All right."
He wasn't quite sure how to tell her that his thoughts were all about marrying her, loving her, keeping her safe forever and cherishing their children and watching them grow. It would have to wait, just like so many other things during this damned year.
He had every intention of telling her, but then the pictures came out and the security guard's tell-all did as well, and it all went to hell.
