“Hell, no. Only wildlife pictures. If thecreatures happen to be having sex, it’s a bonus.” Eton chuckled.“I don’t see Harry taking those sorts of photos, not at all.”He shook his head and seemed to be deep in thought. “We’ll oftensit down together to watch wildlife documentaries and discuss animalbehavior. We’re really quite boring at home. Finn often joins us,too; he’s the architect. But we never sit and watch films abouthouse building and architecture.”
I giggled with him. I didn’t believe for oneminute that his life might be boring. We all had a bit of downtime. That didn’t mean we were boring.
“I have the calendar.”
“What calendar?”
“The Twelve Angles, based on the exhibition.I haven’t hung it up yet, because it’s for next year and I hopeI’ll be living somewhere else by then. That’s if I can get enoughmoney to get my own place.”
“You’re the sort of girl to have a sexycalendar on the wall, are you? Interesting.”
“You haven’t seen it. It’s more art thanporn. Anyway, it was a gift from my roommate, but I hope I’ll moveout soon.”
“Where will you go?”
“I don’t know,” I sighed. “Just find myown place. I still have to work, so it’s not as if I can run awayto the countryside and live with a pack of dogs.”
Eton found my hand, took hold of it, and gaveit a comforting squeeze. “I feel the same way about New York. Wewere raised there, and we’ve always lived there. But I’d like torun away to the countryside and raise animals, too.”
I wasn’t sure what he was telling me. It madesense that he didn’t want his extended vacation to end, and he’dlike to continue being at an animal sanctuary rather than back in therat race. But it also sounded as if he shared a vision with me ofsomething we both wanted but couldn’t have. The three brothers hadprobably run out of savings. Six months was a long time to go withoutwork.
“Anyway,” Eton said, holding my hand inanother squeeze. What you’re telling me is that if you meet theBretton brothers, you won’t be able to forget you’ve got picturesof them with their clothes off.”
I choked back a laugh.
“Or the woman. I don’t know her name, butif she’s there, you’ll be green with envy. Her having threeboyfriends when most women make do with one.”
“Pah!” There was no holding back myexclamation at that one. “Her name is Karen, I think.”
I was sure I remembered it right. I rememberedfeeling dead jealous when I read about her. There was a woman livingout my fantasy. I remembered seeing a photograph of her sandwichedbetween two men with tattoos. They were obviously all naked, althoughthe rude bits were concealed. The hot image burned into my mind.Although, maybe I shouldn’t feel jealous but inspired. Her storyproved dreams do come true sometimes. “Tell me, Karen, what firstattracted you to the triplet sons of the multi-trillionaire?”
“Really? You think she’s in it for themoney? Don’t you think she can be genuinely in love with threeguys?” Eton looked deadly serious when he asked this question.
“I’m fooling around. Sure, I think she’sin love with them. I’ve seen them on the news, and they all lookreally happy. I think she’s dead lucky that they’re happy withthat arrangement too.”
“Dead lucky, huh?” Eton grinned at me,somewhat mischievously.
“What are you thinking?”
His grin was as wide as his face, and even hiseyes smiled at me. “If you think she’s lucky, wait until you meetmy brothers.”
Oh, hell. What was I getting myself into?
No time for questions as the taxi was alreadypulling to a halt outside of a building that at a glance, I thoughtlooked like a modern church, but no, it was obviously the venue.
CHAPTER TEN
FINN
I stood outside The Metropolis Arts Center onmy own, waiting for Eton to arrive with his lady friend, and waspleased to get a few minutes alone with my thoughts. I couldn’tquite work out at what point the day had started to become weird andwhether I’d stepped through a porthole into a parallel universe.
With Elon Musk sending cars into space andsaying it was highly likely we lived in a computer simulation, anything was possible.
The day started normal enough.
Eton had his bedroom door shut when I got up.He soon emerged, as did Harry, and we hit the best fashion boutiqueswhen they opened.
Having inherited a considerable fortune due tothe multiple insurance payouts from our mother’s untimely death, wewere able to shop for whatever we wanted without having to check theprice. We’d never been a poor family, but the inheritance sum waslife-changing for three single working guys with no kids.
