“Then I accept,” she croaks, quickly wiping a stray tear from underneath her eye.
As I contemplate hugging her, she mumbles an excuse to go join the others and practically runs away. I get it. We don’t do emotional well, and right now, I’ve made her just that. I take a deep breath, happy with my decision, before I, too, leave.
Gunner and Gray wait for me near the doors leading outside to the unkempt garden. They’re both dressed in black jeans, black sleeveless shirts, and the new leather cut with the logo on the back.
“Mama,” they grin in unison, and I mock scowl at them for good measure.
“That’s going to take some getting used to,” I say, referring to my MC title.
“You look amazing,” Gray says with a nod.
Gunner whistles under his breath. “Rocco’s a lucky guy.”
“I know,” I laugh.
Then I link my arms with theirs, and follow them to where everyone’s gathered.
Rocco stands next to Cain, and to the left are Dante, Baz, Munroe, Tex, Stretch, Slayer, and Slasher. Opposite the men are my Cunts, Alana, Sasha, Rose, Cilla, and Izzy.
“He hasn’t seen their backs,” Gray assures me just before we reach them.
I smile as my gaze finds Rocco’s. Even though it’s only been a handful of hours, it’s still too long since I last saw him.
“Who gives this married woman away to be married to the same man again?” Cain asks.
“We do,” Gunner and Gray answer in unison. Then they kiss my cheeks and while making sure Rocco can’t see their backs, they awkwardly walk over to join the other men.
Rocco takes my hand and pulls me to his side. “Killer,” he murmurs only loud enough for me to hear.
“Mi rey,” I breathe.
“Since I’ve never ordained shit before, let alone an already married couple, I’m just going to wing it,” Cain sing-songs.
A few people chuckle.
“Most of us have no idea what Cara sees in Rocco’s ugly face, but here we are,” Cain grins.
“It’s his cock,” Sasha pipes up. “She told us that yesterday.”
I burst out laughing as Cain nods like that makes all the sense in the world.
“Can we get on with it?” Rocco growls.
He might sound annoyed, but I know better. He’s just eager for us to get married for real. Well, no. That’s not it… it’s for us to voluntarily say I do to each other.
“Yes, yes,” Cain says, waving him off. “So, umm… if you two would like to get married again, please recite your vows.”
Rocco takes my hand and turns to look at me. “Cara.” He swallows thickly. “When we got married, you were a job. A mission. I never imagined that day could turn into something real, but here we are. I can’t wait to spend the rest of my life with you by my side.”
I gulp and my eyes become misty. “Rocco…” Blinking rapidly, I try to get rid of the tears gathering behind my lids. “You’re everything that’s right in this world. I never knew that men like you actually existed, and I definitely never believed I’d be able to love anyone. But you’ve made me see that there’s more to life than what I knew, and that love is worth fighting for.”
Some of the Cunts sniff, but I don’t turn around to see who. I’m too transfixed on my husband, and the moment we’re sharing right now.
Even though our first marriage wasn’t what it should have been, it was still kind of perfect. Not at the time, but in hindsight. Because I’m not sure I could have opened my heart to Rocco, or trusted him, if we’d met under different circumstances.
Evil forced us together, but it’s love, understanding, and respect that binds us forever.
“I love you, Killer,” Rocco rasps.
