“Fuck, I want to record that sound,” Matteo groaned. He thrust a couple more times before coming inside me. He pressed his body against mine, and I savored the weight of him against my back, the vibrations of his rapid heartbeat, and the ragged sound of his panting breaths.

“You did so well for me, tesoro.”

Pleasure had stolen my words from me, but I melted into his praise.

If this was what important Mafia work was, count me in.

He stood and slipped my clothes back on before lifting me into his arms. As much as I loved my husband’s body, it was his single-minded care for me that led me to curl into his chest and warm at his murmured praise.

MATTEO

“You ready to go into the office in a few minutes?” I kissed the top of Sofiya’s head as I passed her in the kitchen on the way to get coffee.

“I already made you a cup,” she said, gesturing at the mug in front of her.

My lips quirked. “What is this, tesoro?”

“A caramel latte.”

“In a golden retriever mug?” The cup had small golden retrievers around it, all wearing absurd outfits.

She looked down at where the dog was resting by her feet. “We should go shopping for some outfits for Noodle.”

I grimaced, knowing I couldn’t refuse her but dreading Romeo’s face when he saw the dog in a fucking rain jacket or whatever Sofiya had in mind.

“Speaking of shopping—I thought I told you to use your credit card.”

“I did!”

I pulled out my phone and read out the credit card transactions—an order for lunch delivery and a clear phone case.

“See, I used it.”

“You spent seventy dollars.”

She bit her lip, looking unsure, like she really thought I was angry with her. I sighed and rounded the island so I could pull her close to my chest. “Baby, I need you to spend at least fifty thousand a month. Preferably closer to a hundred thousand. If you don’t, it looks like I’m not providing for you as your husband, as Don. Do you understand?”

“I think I’ll need a few more pastries,” she whispered.

I laughed and she pulled away quickly, as if trying to catch the smile on my face. I just arched an eyebrow at her and she cuddled back into my chest.

“It’s hard to spend money when I can’t leave the apartment.”

I pressed a kiss to the top of her head, hating that I was failing her. She wouldn’t be safe until I destroyed the Albanian threat. “It’s temporary, tesoro. I promise.” The only benefit was having an excuse to keep her with me at all times. “We have work to do this morning.” I pulled away enough so I could grab my latte, taking a sip even though I hated to ruin the little heart she’d made with the foam.

“Lots of important Mafia business?”

I threaded my hand through her hair, using my tight grip to tilt her head back. “Cheeky. But yes, lots of important Mafia business to do. But even more important, we need to continue your training.”

Her lips parted with the slightest whimper. I couldn’t stop a wide grin from spreading across my face.

Her lip stuck out in a pout. “I don’t need training.”

“You definitely do. But don’t worry, I’ll help you become a good, obedient wife.”

Her eyes flashed with fire and arousal. She liked me toying with her, degrading her.
