He towered over me, easily twice my width, a dark nightmare stacked with muscle and natural weaponry, highlighting how weak and thin I was. Power rolled off him in waves, the heat and vitality of the monster before me overwhelming.
The scent of leather and mandarin filtered in over the tang of blood. Usually the alluring citrus scent shoved me into high alert, but for some reason, on my enemy, it made my mouth water.
“Parasite…,” I murmured, unsure where he was going with this.
Starlit eyes dipped to my parted lips. “Yes, poison?”
“What the hell are you doing?”
He grinned. “Finally taking what I want.”
His mouth crashed against mine, all feral need and punishment. He nipped my lower lip, and blood bloomed through the kiss, metallic and dark, matching the ferocity with which he dominated. He lapped at the slight cut, adding to the sting.
A groan shook his chest, vibrating through mine. He forced his way inside, sweeping past my defences. I startled as the forked tip of his tongue tangled against mine. The heady taste of him scrambled all thoughts.
He ripped away, leaving me panting and dizzy and more confused than ever. Glowing eyes seemed to search my face, though I had no idea what the psycho might have been looking for.
A familiar sneer curved his lips, slightly swollen from the fierce kiss. “Even your lips taste like poison.”
I scoffed, “Fuck you, Sin.”
His tail tightened at my throat, eyes flaring with dark promise. “Not yet.”
Dizziness had me slumping heavily against his chest as my breathing shallowed. Blackness swam over me, fuzzing out the world.
“Liliana!” Sin’s urgent voice filtered through the rushing in my ears I hadn’t noticed.
I blinked, realising my face was pressed against his charcoal skin, smeared in blood. For a second, I worried it was mine, but a hand on my shoulder eased me back until I was gazing up at the familiar face of my enemy.
Something like worry creased his features, but it was gone before I could fully identify it. Instead, narrowed eyes told me he despised the weak creature before him.
“Stop passing out.” His sharp words were designed to cut.
I snorted, instantly regretting the action as another wave of dizziness hit me. “Pretty hard when you’re half-starved and being forced to feed a parasite.”
“Pathetic.” His upper lip curled in disgust. “I’d have liked to drag you out of here by your tiny neck, but I suppose I’ll have to carry my frail captive instead.”
My lips parted to snipe back, but before I could get a word out, his arms hooked under my back and knees, lifting me bridal-style. His strength engulfed me, making me feel tiny as he cradled me against his chest. For some bizarre reason, being surrounded by all his pointy edges left me feeling safer.
The fear his kiss had stolen came rushing back as I realised what he intended.
He was leaving and taking me with him.
“Put me down!” I hissed.
This was not how I thought I’d escape my uncle. A body bag would have been more likely.
Sin stepped heavily over Martin and the fear demon, like the men he murdered were nothing but litter on the street. He carried me out of the lab, limping slightly from the wounds across his legs.
Reality pressed down, and I thrashed hard. Never go where a demon wanted to take you.
I’d probably end up in hell.
“Sin, you vile beast, put me down!” I snarled, knocking my glasses askew as I fought his hold.
The bastard grinned down at me viciously, not pausing his long strides. His arms tightened, squeezing me against his chest.
We weren’t alone in the hallway.
