“I’m Chief of my tribe. The SC’s, Sentient Cyborgs you see here and others, came to us. Marcus,” he thumbed in the direction of the other screen their leader. She deliberately didn’t look at him.
He couldn’t even say hello like a normal human being, no, he had to be an ass in that too.
Fuck him.
He always pissed her off. Nothing new there when it came to Marcus. And annoyed with herself that she’d had those feelings again. He’d not bothered to introduced himself properly either in that prison or in her home, like he didn’t have to and it put her on edge. How could he of missed that she didn’t recognise him? It was obvious. She’d asked him why she thought he was familiar, and he’d not said a damn thing until she’d pushed and touched him in her home. But she wasn’t blind, damn it. He’d looked real good naked in that prison, even damaged, he was a hook no doubt about that, all that muscle but she wasn’t dangling for anyone. Especially him.
Why hadn’t he just said?....
“Is their Prime.” Her father told them pulling her from her own thoughts. Like she needed the reminder. “We choose to work together, plan together and listen to each other to get the job done. We have mixed soldier teams out in the terrain. We eat together, sleep together, work together. Learn from each other. We both know the value of that partnership.”
“And they listen to you?” The Director asked with more than a bit of surprise in his voice.
“They don’t have to listen to me to at all, but we work in partnership, we hear each other out. You should ask them yourself but yes. They are nothing like the KC’s and we have worked together for nearly 20 years. They live here like us, like humans.”
“We need time to digest this. What you propose is a joint partnership yes?” Her Dad nodded. “We’ll get back to you on this channel.”
“Don’t take too long Director. The intel Marcus picked up at that site tells us they found a nuclear bunker and have been searching for it for a long time. We think they had help finding it. We don’t have those plans. Do you? I doubt they’re going to all that trouble just for us, particularly as our Cyborgs have something they want, and they need to still be alive for that. They’re coming for you, for all humans, and as long as my daughter remains there of her own free will, I’m happy for a coalition and if she chooses to leave and it goes well, after that too. Win win. And you should know, she cut all ties with us when she left to join you and much to my annoyance, she gave us nothing. Your daughter being caught along with her two protection agents was because of a leak you have that dragged my daughter into danger.”
“How do we know it wasn’t her that gave them up?” One of the agents asked. She didn’t have to look to see who it was. Their security lead Ben. Another male ass.
Her uncle’s and their leader all took a meaningful step forward. She bit her lip to stop from grinning. They had her back. Even Marcus which was a little surprising. “Are you stupid?” her father asked him and she nearly nodded. He was. Stupid and arrogant. “Do you have any idea what they do to humans? To women now? No one’s volunteering for that shit. For a start, they are male.” Her father told him then looked at the Director. “Director would you clear the room, I have information for you and my daughter only.”
He gave the nod and people started to leave. She held back but the Director called her forward to his side. The doors closed. “Is the room bug free?” her Dad asked. The Director nodded. “The information retrieved on site that night mentioned their assets as being in close with the Directors. One in particular have a family, young children, they threatened them if he didn’t comply. They could have offered more incentives but for most, that would have been plenty. There are others. My daughter is just an agent and not privy to your inner workings. She had no idea where they were going that day until they got there and were taken. She stayed for intel and to keep your daughter and the other agent safe for as long as possible. Someone set them up Director, find out who did and fast. I want answers and my daughter is now going to be a target for them too.”
The Director gave a nod. “I’ll get back to you soon.” The screen cut off and the Director turned to her.
“I’m curious, how did you get by our security checks?”
“Wasn’t that difficult, I had help.”
“Shit, anyone could do that then.”
“No. My help was of the SC kind. My uncles.”
“Your uncles that are the Cyborgs on that screen?”
“Yeah, the best men I know.” She genuinely grinned.
“They supported you coming to us?”
“No but they supported my choices, although I’m going to get it in the neck when I see them, I said I’d be gone a few months to check things out. It’s been well over a year.”
“I’m guessing the reason my daughter was found is because your father sent someone to find you.”
She nodded. “Yes.”
“And you could have got out on your own at any time?”
She gave a nod. “Probably.”
The video screen flickered back to life. Her uncles were on the other side, her father and Marcus now gone. She was relieved. Hawk smiled at her. “Little bit, you continue to be trouble you know that?” She smirked at them. Hawk got serious. “No messing Moon, you need to get your ass back home to safety stat. This is serious. We don’t have long to deal with this and we’re leaving now. Here’s a gift. You did well but you were a little tight, behind on your training, you need us to work on that, and we need to see you soon. Be safe. Stay on point. Go nowhere without your weapons.” She gave them a nod as they all blew her kisses and the screen switched to the video feed of her cell.
They both watched as she took out the three Cyborgs in under 3 and a half seconds then sit back down. She could see that her uncles were right, she had been tight. But hell, it had been a lot of stress. She’d had to listen to Sarah screaming then Kate getting beaten and it had been a while since she’d worked with Cyborgs. Her edge was off. The vid cut off and the uncles were back. “Start making plans we’re coming for you.” They all gave her a nod and it shut down permanently this time.
The Director looked at her, a little in disbelief. “You’re human right?” She nodded. “Fuck. I’m listening.”
