Thank the fuck!
“Any chance the feeling each other up good morning session could be over soon?” They all looked at each other as she drank, shrugged and grinned. Marcus looked pained. “Moving in 10. You ready?” Marcus asked them. Her boys nodded. She drank her coffee.
He looked directly at her. “You’re not going don’t ask or throw a fit.”
That pissed her off. She hadn’t thrown a fit in ….. well a while.
“Like I said before, Moon can hold her own.” Spike told him again. She winked at him and blew him a kiss. Spike grinned.
They drove him fucking crazy. It was one of the reason’s he couldn’t be around the quad with her. It was too fucking much to see all the time and be on the outside of. They did love her, and she loved them without a doubt. He held back the bark that crawled up his throat. “I know that.” He told them. Then looked at her. She was so fucking beautiful and brave it floored him. “I could give you some bullshit about needing the vehicle’s covered, but we’d all know that was bullshit so I’m not going to bother.” Moon smirked into her coffee.
God he wanted to kiss that smirk away.…
“We need to move fast, Cyborg fast. We’ll need to keep it quiet for as long as possible, disarm the nuclear device if active, blow it or obtain it if we can. Make sure they don’t have any more stashed at that site, then fight and shoot on the fly moving fast, they’re gonna be coming at us hard. Set the explosives wherever the fuck they need to be, probably have to set the timer close so they don’t find them in time, too close for humans and run like hell to make it out.” He looked across at her. “You’re a liability here.”
“Agreed. I’ve done what I can. If you get in trouble, I’ll be crashing the party. Wait for the noise and leg it.”
“Fuck sake Moon. I just told you to stay here!” He looked like he had a bit of steam coming out his ears.
“Yes you did, and I told you I’d rescue your ass and theirs if I need to. No one takes my quad. No one, takes my people.”
“I’m not your quad!”
“No, you’re not but they’d be upset if I left your ass. Go figure. And these other men,” she cocked her head at the others standing around. “Are too fucking brave for words and if they need me, I won’t be letting them down.”
He started to storm off. “FUCK!” She smiled watching him go.
Putting her coffee down on the Humvee, she turned to her uncles opening her arms wide and they all kinda stepped in cos they were just so damn huge. “Bring it in.” They did all grinning down at her. She looked up into each of their faces, directly into each of their eyes. She knew the rest could hear them and couldn’t give a shit.
“You look after each other’s backs.” They gave her a nod. “Don’t do anything stupid.” They gave her another nod. “I don’t want to be bandaging any boo hoos when you get back, you’re all so needy with those.” She wrinkled her nose. They sniggered. “And I don’t want to be listening to all that moaning and groaning because you got something shot off trying to be John Wayne, Wesley Snipes – Blade obviously or Jason Stratham in anything. For the last fucking time, they were actors!” They chuckled. “Or have to be explaining to some vag banger female that her cock got broken. They’re just so clingy.” She shuddered. They were laughing now. She waited until they’d calmed down and touched each of them cupping their faces getting serious. “I fucking love you guys. You come back or I’m coming in to drag your asses out and I won’t be happy. We have a deal. Remember it.”
“It goes tits up, you get in that suit on and hunker down in the Humvee, we don’t show, and you get going for the base.” Hawk told her. She nodded.
They hugged her hard, kissing her forehead and cheek one at a time before letting her go and stood gazing at her as if they were looking at her for the last time. Her chest clenched. She wasn’t having that. She knew the others were standing there too, watching and waiting.
“No. Just no. Stop it! Enough of that shit. No one is saying fucking goodbye today. No one. I won’t allow it. You hear me? You are Cyborgs. The best fucking Cyborgs out there. You all are. Every damn one of you. What you do and who you are, matters. Matters, to the humans you are risking your lives for this minute whether they know it or not. Never forget that. You are badass motherfuckers bringing justice and death with you and make our enemies regret ever fucking meeting you. Now go, do your job. Make me proud and get done, what I fucking need to kick some KC ass.”
They each smiled down on her, turned and jogged out. The others stood around staring at her, she looked at them all, gave them a sharp nod before they followed them. Her boys were leaders. Marcus stayed a little longer and then it was just the two of them. “Thank you for speaking to them. They needed to hear it from a human.” She gave a nod. He came in closer slowly and she held her ground, his nose brushed her neck. “Use the anti-radiation vaccine if it goes up. It will help and put the suit on now, just in case. You can’t outrun the blast but there’s a good chance you’ll survive the fall out in here. You get moving ASAP, don’t wait for us we’ll catch up.” She took a shuddering breath. He was talking like he wasn’t coming back. “I’m coming back Moon,” he whispered. “And when I do, I’m taking what belongs to me.”
Turning he jogged after his men.
She stared after him wondering what had changed. Something clearly had. Maybe her quad wasn’t the only ones who needed a little pep talk. They’d all just gone on a death mission to save humanity and he was thanking her, saying things that were….. personal. He spoke of need and want. Lust. Like he actually wanted them. With her.
Those were things they didn’t have between them. And she wondered if yet again, the chance to make peace would be lost on this mission. That made her heart clench. The world was not a kind place and she feared, she was about to lose them all.
Strung out, the hours started to drag. She had the vaccine ready, the suit on and waited.
Using the binoculars, she watched the tracks they’d taken. Cyborgs would make the compound in under five hours. It was getting close and she couldn’t see a damn thing. She had no idea of the actual route and started to get antsy.
What was taking so long…..
Checking her watch for what felt like the hundredth time, it was nearly six hours. Then boom, boom, boom, followed by lots of gun fire. Moon checked the horizon in her glasses. A fireball lit up the sky but was no nuclear explosion. She let out a huge sigh of relief. She didn’t need that suit after all. They’d done something and thank god no mushroom cloud.
Stripping the suit off, she replaced it all, then moved nearer the track and waited for over the next half hour listening to a gun fight in the air looking through the field glasses trying to find them. It sounded like it was coming from one direction and clear her boys were being chased. There was no fucking way she was standing there doing fuck all, while they were under fire. Marcus could suck it.
Moving all the vehicles nearer to the jump off point, it exposed her but fuck, she wasn’t leaving anything to chance now, knowing if they were fighting their way out and were gonna need a quick getaway. They were camo’d and charged and unlikely to be seen if the KC were dealing with an infiltration. That would pull KCs in not out, unless they were already searching the woods in pursuit of her teams. Her boys were on the move and deadly.
She took the high ground and searched the area between the silo and her. Seeing flashes in the distance and hearing the gun fire.
