She told him honestly. The thought of what he’d done to Sarah under duress. She closed her eyes. They’d made him do that but it would never sit well with her.
More dots appeared.
They can get to anyone. Move her.
Don’t tell anyone and keep her out of sight.
She frowned reading that again. She knew who the ‘her’ was. Sarah. And he thought they’d not made their point yet. Having him do that to her wasn’t enough? They wanted it to hurt more?
Fuck!
That meant they’d be coming for her again. She wasn’t safe, just like he’d said.
We’re in our territory now. We’re safe here.
She tapped out not really believing it.
The dots moved. No you’re not. Knock. Knock.
She looked at the words. What? A knock at her door sounded. Twice. Shit….
Open the door Moon.
Mr Mysterious was here and…. he knew her name.
Swallowing the lump now in her throat, she moved towards her door and saw shadows but not much else. Cautiously she opened it. And the Cyborg she’d been messaging stood there putting his phone away. He was waiting for her to make up her mind. Damn he looked good. Stepping back, she let him in closing the door behind him.
He stayed in the shadows turning towards her as she walked into the room behind him. “You been out there this whole time?”
“Nope. The intel I gathered once downloaded gave us something. I was dropped in this morning. Things have changed. If you hadn’t made the connection, I’d have knocked anyway.” The fact that he knew where she lived in the first place was a mystery. She’d told no one back at that base. That meant someone had been keeping tabs on her and inwardly groaned. She knew who that would be and he didn’t have to say that him being here, was dangerous and stupid. She knew that but whatever he’d come to say, he clearly thought it was worth the risk. That meant it was serious.
“Drink?” she offered. “I get the feeling I’m gonna need one.”
“Rye?”
She smiled. It’s what her uncles drank, and she’d learnt to like it too. There was a booming moonshine industry back at the Mountain Base as well as in the FHA. “Yes.” She went to her drinks table and poured two. “Seat?” He shook his head taking the glass from her staying where he was. She walked to the sofa and sat down taking a sip of her own. He did look damn good. Unlike her, he no longer had a mark on him and those clothes, fitted way too well.
“You okay?” he asked. He’d caught her staring.
She blinked back her thoughts. “We’re both better than Kate. They tended her major injuries and put her in a healing coma. We won’t know for a while.” She took another hit of her Rye feeling sick at the thought. “However nice this is, you’re here for a reason.”
“You need to convince the upper management that we need to start working together. I downloaded a lot while there. They have a wipe out plan. Found some old weapons. If we don’t find an answer to that, humans are going to be an extinct species real soon.”
“What’s the point of that? When we’re gone, everyone’s gone, they’ll have no army.” Unless…. She watched him take a swallow of his Rye. The way his muscles worked down his throat and neck. Heat circled in the pit of her stomach.
Did she know him?....
“They are sterile right?” she asked almost choking on the words.
He stared at her for a moment and a numb cold feeling crossed over her skin.
Fuck…
“They…. Are.”
Was he fucking with her?
“They…. are,” she repeated narrowing her eyes. “But….. you’re not are you?”
