Her lips against mine feel so damn perfect. I kiss her heatedly, working my hands in her soft hair, loving the feel of her against my body. I don’t know how I have lived without touching this woman. Her breathy noises urge me to kiss her deeper, twirling her hair lightly around my fingertips. I kiss her until her lips are swollen under mine, then break off the kiss. Mckenna places her hand on my thigh as I drive the golf cart behind the main property.

I make the thing go as fast as I can because all I want to do is ravish Mckenna.

“Adrian! You’re going to make us crash!” She grabs my arm, her laughter so intoxicating I can’t help the silly grin on my face.

“You’re safe with me, hellion.” I turn up the paved road that leads to the cottage and bring the golf cart safely to a stop.

“Time to eat.”

“I enjoyed the ride,” Mckenna grins.

I help her off the golf cart and thread her fingers through mine. We stride up the cobbled path to the wooden door of the cottage.

“This is a charming little cottage. Your director friend needs a side hustle?” Mckenna gives me the shyest smirk.

“He has people to manage the place for him, but he inherited this operation from an aunt. The place has such a good reputation he didn’t want to change it.”

“Why mess with a good thing?”

“Exactly.” I hold the wooden door open.

The interior is surprising, open, and airy, with equestrian photos hanging on the walls. You’d think it would look like antiquity from the outside, but the place is fresh and modern.

A woman with dark hair comes rushing over to us.

“You’re a little later than I thought, but that’s okay! We strive to accommodate all our guests. My name is Beth, and I’ll be looking after you this afternoon. Are you ready to eat? If not, you can walk around the gardens.”

“We’re ready to eat,” I reply, my gaze zeroing on Mckenna.

Beth claps her hands together. “I was hoping you’d go with that option! Come into the dining room. It’s all set up for you.”

We follow her into a dining room with an oval table and backless chairs. The floor-to-ceiling windows give us a view of the gardens, and we can see horses grazing in the pasture.

Mckenna strides over to the windows.

Watching the delight on her face, my hand curls into a fist. I feel a sharp pang of jealousy, which I try to brush off.

“I’ll be out with the appetizers in just a moment.” Beth gives us a nod and backs out of the room.

“You know one thing I’ve always admired about you, Mckenna?”

She turns, and the sun lights her hair to a deep reddish brown. She’s so gorgeous.

“You’ve always known exactly what you’ve wanted. For as long as I’ve known you, you’ve talked about being a vet.”

Mckenna pushes her hair behind her ears. “I would have been finished by now.”

“I know.” I shove my hands in my pockets to keep from touching her, sensing that, at this moment, she wouldn’t welcome my touch. I don’t want her to take it because she’s bound by a contract.

I want her to come to me for my touch because she wants it.

Because she craves it.

“I don’t know where I would have been working, though. Here? Back home in Boston? I thought of going to Maine or Oregon.”

“I’m sorry.” The apology is out of my mouth before I can stop it.

“Are you?” She tips her head to the side, studying me.
