“We have to go.” She breaks the embrace.

“I know. You packed everything?”

“Yes.”

“Good,” I stride toward her bag by the door.

Taking her time, Mckenna steps into the new shoes I bought her, pulling a light cardigan over her shoulders.

“Adrian, I’m glad we’re ending this weekend as friends.”

“Just friends?” I wrap a strand of her hair around my finger.

She gives me a sly smile. “More than friends. Thinking that you hated me made my isolation worse.”

“I hate that you felt that way. But that’s behind us now, Mckenna.”

“Okay,” she whispers.

I take her hand in mine.

When she came here, I treated her as if she were my possession. Now, I treat her as if she’s my treasure. I open the car door for her, waving away my driver.

“Thanks,” she smiles, but it doesn’t quite reach her eyes as I click her seat belt.

“You’re welcome.” I close her door lightly, then come around the door as my driver puts her bags in the trunk.

She is silent on the way to Club Lust, and maybe she’s nervous about checking into the club or she’s thinking of what we are going to do later.

My phone rings. It’s my private investigator, and I haven’t talked to him since last night.

“Yes?”

“Mr. McIntyre, I have news. Davis is on a plane heading to New York right now.”

“What time?” A mix of anticipation and anger has me clenching my fist. “How sure are you that it’s him?”

Mckenna is looking out the window, but I know she’s overhearing my conversation.

“A hundred percent confirmation, Mr. McIntyre. I’ll send you photo proof.”

“Excellent.” My pulse is racing. The timing of this can’t be more spot on. This is the perfect way for Mckenna and me to put the past behind us and start a new life. The car turns into the Club Lust parking lot.

There are other town cars waiting, and the parking lot is filled. It’s a normal night at Club Lust. I wonder if Mckenna would want to play here after we check her in, but I want to take her home and celebrate.

“I’ll notify the authorities. Thanks, Tom.”

“You got it, boss.”

I end the call, unbuckle Mckenna’s seat belt, and pull her into my lap.

“Adrian!”

“I love you.” I slant my lips over hers and kiss her deeply, with all the heat I feel for this woman warming my veins.

“What’s happening?” Her eyes are sparkling in the car’s interior.

“I can’t wait to celebrate tonight.”
