I let go of her hand and watch as she spins around once more with her eyes closed and head tilted up toward the sky. I take the time to get on one knee, with the box open and placed in front of me.

Jasmine stops dancing, opening her eyes. Her breath catches in her throat as she takes in the sight of me on one knee. She throws a hand over her mouth, tears mixing in with the raindrops on her cheeks.

“Dolcezza, come here,” I say, needing her closer so I can slide the ring on her finger.

She walks toward me on wobbly legs, stopping right in front of the box. Her eyes fixed on me, not on the ring in the box. It makes me love her even more because she could’ve focused on the sparkly ring, but she’s focused on me.

I take her hand in mine, the feel of her soft hand in mine giving me the contact I crave.

“I have always prided myself on being the smartest guy in the room. The best player on the ice. The guy who takes care of his family. And now, I want to pride myself on being the best husband.” I chuckle, and she shakes with a sob.

“Loving you has been the greatest part in my life and the most important thing I’ve ever done. There’s nothing else that compares in life to the joy I get from seeing you smile, hearing your laugh and watching you simply exist. You’re the most breathtaking thing I’ve ever seen. Please do me the honor of being my wife and taking my breath away for the rest of our lives. Will you marry me?”

“Yes,” she cries.

I slide the ring onto her finger, watching as her eyes fill with more tears now that she finally looks at the large oval diamond glistening under the rays of a summer sunset.

“It’s beautiful, Elio. The whole thing was beautiful. Thank you. I love you.” She flings her arms around my neck, crying happy tears into my neck as I lift her off the ground and spin her around.

“I love you, dolcezza,” I murmur in her ear, tightening my hold on her with excitement brewing in my body for all that’s to come for us.

Whatever comes our way, we’ll be united.

Trust me.

THE END!
