Just when I don’t think I can take anymore, his fingers tighten around my hair and his breath hitches as he pushes inside me so possessively, I know his will always be the deepest scar. His cock jerks inside me seconds before he throws his head back with a savage roar.

Then the storm calms.

The demons are silent.

Releasing my hair, Julian sides his fingers around the front of my throat and gently pulls me against him, rushing a passionate kiss past my waiting lips.

Our skin is slick with sweat as he presses his face into my hair. “Are you all right? I didn’t hurt you, did I?”

Lifting a hand behind me, I run it down his cheek. “No. That was…”

“Intense.”

“Yeah…” I agree.

Breaking away from his hold, I turn around, catching the depleted look in his eyes. “Are you all right?”

He doesn’t answer at first. Then exhaling a labored breath, he nods. “I will be—as long as I have you.”

Sighing, I place a soft kiss on his chest. “Then we’re both going to be okay.”

At that, the tension in his muscles relaxes.

But there’s still a dark cloud hanging over our heads. One that a hard fuck won’t fix. “What are we going to do?” I ask, giving him a tentative look. “This woman won’t give up. You know that, right? She stabbed Vivian seven times.” Even in saying the words, I wince. “That’s a message to me.”

“I have a few ideas.” He clenches his jaw, lengthening the muscles in his neck and pulling them taut. “We’re not alone. We’ve got the New York and Jersey Police on this now.”

“But—”

“No buts. We’ll deal with it tomorrow. Tonight belongs to us.” Turning me around, he wraps me in his arms and walks me backward toward the bed. When my legs hit the mattress, he guides us both down, never letting me go.

Julian?” I ask, doubt creeping its way back in my head.

“Yeah?”

“I don’t expect anything from you. I’m okay with raising this baby by myself.” With my head on his chest, I watch as his fingers draw circles on my stomach.

“I love you, you know.” His hand stills, and he holds his breath.

His easy confession stuns me for a moment.
