If this was Vera speaking, then I’d be straight on that carriage for fear she’d back out. But with the daemon? “How’s Saturday morning?”
This was a huge moment for me and Devereaux—and Soleil too. I wanted to prepare mentally and emotionally. If that was even possible.
“That works fine. I’ll be there.”
I rested my head against Devereaux’s shoulder. “We’ll be at Myrtle Manor on Ceres Close. Close to Juno Park.”
The daemon bowed and wound down the empty courtyard steps toward where his love line extended to Gug. The journalist sat on the bottom step furiously jotting in a notebook. I pursed my lips, scanning the area, then let pink magic flow down my arm. I aimed my magic at their love line and let fly. The pink blurred toward them and coated their pink ribbon, sinking in a moment later.
Maligni reached Gug and picked her up, notebook and all, to twirl her in a circle.
I smiled at her laughter. Just a little something I’d started playing with two days ago. Maybe I would add to the tome on Venus’s power. I didn’t want these secrets to be lost. Especially not if this was a turning point in the history of the descendants. One day, someone may need to understand the metal arrow or bond ribbons. Maybe even summoning and banishing the bow.
“Myrtle Manor, huh.” Devereaux drew his nose through my hair, inhaling.
Heat crept into my cheeks. “Sorry, that was so highhanded. We need to discuss where we’ll live.”
“I just wanted to know if I was invited after the ‘for now’ comment you made to Austin that time.”
My heart sank. “I didn’t mean that. I want you with me—” My gaze narrowed at the teasing glint in his gray eyes. I whacked his chest. “No, you’re not invited.” Damn it, I wasn’t mean enough to play that card. “I’m kidding. You are.”
Devereaux grinned, then leaned forward, kissing my nose. “Have I told you that you’re adorable when you’re flustered?”
“Have I told you that everything you do is sexy?”
“Once or twice.”
We descended the courthouse steps hand in hand.
I stole a look at him. “Seriously though. We can live in Durita. Or even in my apartment. You really care about the community out there.”
“I’m going to sell my apartment,” he said.
“Really?”
“I’ve had an idea since moving into your apartment, but I thought that we may end up both selling to buy something larger to live in. Now we have your childhood home, I’m thinking that I’d really like to get the Durita baseball club into the Nepos league. I’ll need to save more, but the money from my apartment and the stuff I have saved should go a long way.” He grinned at me. “And if I sell my apartment, then you can’t kick me out of the manor.”
Like that would ever happen. “Don’t forget the money from my apartment too. That will help with your baseball club.”
He stopped in his tracks.
I glanced back.
Devereaux shook his head. “I can’t let you do that.”
I walked back. “I have a mansion now. Though I will miss chats with Rodney.” Not that damn hellhound though.
Devereaux frowned, and I rested my finger over his lips.
“Haven’t you heard, Mr. Vincori?” I murmured. “I’m a very persuasive woman.”
He hummed against my finger. “I’ve had personal experience on the subject.”
“Good.” I arched a brow. “Then you won’t fight me on our next topic.”
Cool gray eyes searched my face.
“I’ll be in need of your help on an important matter on Saturday morning.” My lips curved. “Don’t wear clothes.”
