My muscles clenched around him. “Thank you for waiting.”
Devereaux lifted his head. “I would’ve waited for you as long as it took.”
I know. Tears stung my eyes, and I swallowed hard. This wasn’t a moment for tears. “I don’t know how to tell you this, Mr. Vincori. Sex usually involves more movement. That much I do remember.”
The curve of his lips spiked pure joy through my chest. He pulled most of the way out, and I gasped, my humor dying a sudden death.
“Like this?” he asked, a challenge in his voice.
“Like that. Just like that.” I wasn’t ashamed of the pleading in my voice one bit.
As though he’d been waiting for it, Devereaux slid in and out, hooking my mouth in a deep kiss. My body began to quiver, and he picked up the tempo, his muscles tightening as I felt him grow larger.
A sighing cry left me. Stars filled my vision. Bliss filled my body, my mind. I would have collapsed against him if not for his grip on my neck and jaw.
Only one thing reached me through the haze of pleasure.
A blue and gray eye blazed at me, drinking in every bit of my response.
The word rumbled from him, from both of them. “Mine.”
Devereaux’s roar filled every part of me as he found his release, and I couldn’t help the curve of my lips against his.
Venus had given us one hell of a journey, yet I had my true love in my arms. And all I could think was…
Worth it.
EPILOGUE
“Yes!” I shouted, bursting to my feet on the bleachers. “Run!” This was Durita’s first game in the Nepos little league, and I was a bundle of nerves for my sexy coach berserker.
Soleil dragged me back down. “You nearly knocked my crepe out of my hands. I forgive you, but that’s your only warning.”
I eyed the four boxes before her, three of them empty. Her muffin addiction was taking a hit these days. And Yen’s business was raking in extra cash.
On her other side, Bain waved at Austin, who’d just arrived. “How long does this game go for?”
“We’re halfway. Another three innings,” I said cheerfully. The little league didn’t play nine innings like the adult leagues.
“I need more soda,” he announced. Hooking Austin on the way, he lugged the phoenix to the drinks cart close by.
The Durita field was unrecognizable from the one I’d first visited. Let’s just say that mine and Devereaux’s apartments had provided more than enough money for a revamp. Soleil had donated inherited Hucs money to the cause, too, and Real Nepos Bank donated as well, courtesy of Bain.
Our team now looked as sleek and shiny as all the other teams in the league, plus they possessed an extreme craftiness honed by their upbringing here, and they had fierce determination to boot.
I was so invested in the outcome of this season. I wanted to see our kids annihilate the competition. Devereaux said he was starting to feel afraid of me.
His careful ministrations in our bedroom said otherwise, along with the fact that he slept without stirring every, single night.
Someone tapped me on the shoulder.
I twisted.
“Hey,” a woman said. Vampire? She sat with a row of other women dressed in Durita colors. “Are you Cerys Concordia?”
“Yeah.” I stuck out my hand.
She shook it enthusiastically. “We just wanted to thank you.”
