I bit down on a smile. They were getting further down the path. Usually by now, Soleil would have bagged the guy and moved on.

Bain had already wormed under her skin, and by the time Soleil decided to be honest with herself, she’d be well ensnared.

The bell chimed, and our three cupids entered.

Not long after, my first client arrived, then it was wings tucked and bow up as I spread as much love through Nepos as possible. I barely had time for lunch before it was back to the grind.

The afternoon passed just as quickly, and for the first time in a while, I felt connected to my job. Mine and Devereaux’s declarations of love had to be behind the extra motivation today. After feeling it myself, I just wanted everyone to have the same experience.

Love would win the day.

I was determined to make it so.

My last client left, and I grabbed my compact, refreshing my lipstick and swiping on a fresh coat of mascara.

“Date?” Enzo called over from where he tidied his desk. The guy rivalled Soleil for neatness.

Annya had already gone, but Rolli was on the phone trying to set up a match.

I pulled a face. “Just business. But with a sexy guy.”

He winked. “Why not mix a bit of pleasure in?”

Because I didn’t want the carriage to be set on fire. Again. “You never know.”

Enzo and Soleil left, and I lowered the blinds.

“Sorry, just wanted to get that done first,” Rolli said after hanging up the phone.

“No problem. The guy agreed to go on a date with her?”

“Sure did. It’ll be interesting to see how they work out, but I have a great feeling about it.”

Wasn’t every day a fire mage went on a date with a water mage. They usually remained firmly away from each other.

The bell chimed, and my chest filled with warmth as I grinned at Devereaux. Don’t get me wrong, I’d wanted to give him some sultry smile or a casual “hey,” but love had other plans. I couldn’t hide it.

He grinned back. “Hi, beautiful.”

Melt. “Hey, yourself.”

There. That wasn’t so bad. Nearly sexy.

The printer door slammed shut. I jumped, glancing around. “Rolli? Are you all right?”

“Yep. It’s fine. I’ll lock up!”

“You don’t have keys.” And he didn’t know the activation phrase for our protective charms.

“It’s fine!”

I exchanged a loaded look with Devereaux. “Do you mind waiting outside for a sec?”

“I’ll call a carriage,” he said, glancing at the printer room door. “His heartbeat is all over the place. Just a heads-up.”

I set down my tote, walking to the printer room.

“Don’t come in here!” Rolli shouted.
