“Thanks for looking after me for two days,” I said softly, heat flushing everywhere he devoured me with his eyes alone. “What are your plans today? Because I have some ideas of what we could do.”
He swallowed three times, then mustered the strength to shift his attention from my ass to my face. “My mother was coming to watch you, but I called to tell her not to come when you woke.”
Good. Because that would’ve been awkward for multiple reasons.
“I have work in an hour,” he admitted, squeezing his eyes shut.
My lips twitched. “What a shame.”
His throat worked. “After my shift, I volunteer for your ideas. All of them.”
I hummed, facing him again. “I’ll take that under advisement and let you know. Can I borrow a T-shirt? As you can see, I’m cold.”
He opened his eyes and a growl filled the room as he confirmed that for himself.
I bit my lip against a smile and turned to walk into his room, but an arm barred my way. Body flush with my back, he trailed his lips over my bare shoulder, inhaling deeply.
“You’re going to take my offer under more than advisement, sweetheart,” Devereaux purred.
I tilted my head to grant him more access to my neck. “Oh?”
A crash sounded behind us, but Devereaux didn’t budge. His hand gripped the bottom of my ribs, and he slid his hand down to the dip of my waist, then the curve of my hip.
I ceased to breathe.
“If you want to be touched, then it’s my honor,” he told me in a low voice that burned with promise.
The desire for his hand to dip between my legs was nearly painful. I pressed my hips back and was rewarded by his low hiss.
Another crash.
Devereaux’s lips neared my ear. “Careful, little heart elemental. Or I may forget your three-strike rule.” His teeth grazed up my neck, and I bit down on a moan as he rested his mouth against my pulse. “Mine.”
Heat flooded between my legs. I wasn’t a predator myself, and with someone else that comment might’ve earned them a punch in the throat.
From him? “Yours,” I gasped.
Another crash.
Devereaux stepped back, but not before squeezing my hip. “T-shirts are in the top drawer. Help yourself.”
That I would.
I walked, slightly unsteady, into his room, but his silken voice followed me. “And Cerys?”
“Yeah?” I dug through his shirts, finding a blue one that was brighter than the others. Perfect.
“One day I’m going to make you come so hard you see stars.”
My eyes widened, and I looked up to find him still watching me. The berserker winked, then left me mouth open and speechless.
I swallowed hard, almost seeing stars at the thought of what I’d do to him when this curse was fully gone.
Halfway through the act of shrugging into the blue T-shirt, I yelped as something heavy landed on my foot.
I dropped the shirt to clutch at my toes. “Ow!”
Devereaux was there, a hand under my arm to help me over to the bed. “What happened?”
