The worst part about being an omega was that it was practically impossible to hide your arousal from an alpha. They always knew, and I was sure a wolf’s sense of smell would be even stronger than a human’s.
Time for a little topic change in my mind to keep me dry. “So, your roommate’s coming? Is he also a wolf?”
Garin grimaced as he shook his head. “No, and I shouldn’t even be involving him in this, but he insisted on coming with us, and… it’s hard for me to say no to him.”
“Oh. Is there something going on between you guys?”
“No. I mean, not really.” He glanced at me and smiled. “Would you buy that it’s complicated?”
I had to laugh because I was thinking the same words to describe how I was feeling for Garin. “I’ll allow it. For now.”
My protector looked over at me with a raised eyebrow. “An attorney?”
“Is it that obvious?”
“You don’t need to be in court or anything, right?”
“No, nothing like that.” Thankfully. “Mostly contract law, so I spend hours and hours reading contracts and making sure my clients have the best and most advantageous terms.”
“Nice.” Garin glanced at me again while we were stopped at a light. “I could tell you were smart, but now I know for sure.”
“It’s easy to be smart when you don’t have friends or any kind of social life.”
He just shook his head as he finally turned into a residential neighborhood. “I still find it hard to believe you don’t have lots of friends. You’re so sweet and cute.”
Fuck. I squeezed my ass, making sure no slick was seeping out. “Thank you,” I said quietly.
“I’ll be honest, this is my first job with Shifter For Hire. I don’t really know what I’m doing, so if that was inappropriate or over the line, I’m sorry.”
“No, it wasn’t.” I quickly glanced at him and then looked away before I had a chance to show all my cards. “It was nice to hear.”
A few minutes later, we pulled into a driveway and a guy ran out with a backpack, several grocery bags, and a duffel. He was tall, so I immediately released my seatbelt and reached for the handle to open the car door.
Garin reached across the center console and placed his hand against my chest, holding me in place. “What are you doing?”
“I’ll get in the backseat. Your friend can sit in the front.”
“No way. You’re not moving.”
Just then, the other ridiculously handsome man—about the same height as Garin but slightly slimmer—slid into the backseat, stopping in the center.
I glanced over my shoulder and caught him inhaling a deep breath. Fuck. He scented me. How embarrassing.
His eyes went wide and locked on mine. “Hi. I’m Trig.”
“Nate.” I bit my lip and glanced over at Garin.
He smiled and placed his hand on my shoulder. “Trig is my best friend and the one who got me involved with Shifter For Hire. He’s been working at Alpha For Hire for a while now and has excellent reviews. You couldn’t be in better hands with him.”
Instinctively, my eyes snapped down to Trig’s palms and a shiver ran through me. What was it they said about big hands…
Chapter 7
Trig
Fuck, he smelled good. Better than good. Like Garin, only better. I wanted to rub my cheek against him. And Garin. Their scents were both vying for my attention. This was gonna be a difficult weekend.
I wasn’t sure why I insisted on coming. Panic, I guess. Knowing he needed the cabin as a safe house made me scared for him. I needed to protect him. At the very least, I knew the layout of the land and cabin. That was something. But it was more that I couldn’t handle being away from him more than anything else.
