I rose to my feet and moved straight to the bathroom, quickly going through a shower and putting on some new clothes. I viewed myself from the dressing mirror and grinned as I straightened my jacket. It was the time to reassure myself that everything would be alright. I had to hope for the best. After all, my life changed these past few days far greater than I had expected and maybe it was so quickly, but everything about what I felt for Denzel was so real. It was the only thing that kept me going. He was my light in a sea of dark.
I moved downstairs and headed over to Denzel’s, hoping I wasn't too late for the surprise. I walked down the gravel path, mounted on the front porch, and knocked on the door. With a smile on my face, I waited for his reply, and a few seconds later, he answered the door. “Hey, you're here,” Denzel grinned at me. He leaned closer and placed a kiss on my cheek. “Come in.”
I stepped into the house and he took off my jacket, holding it as we walked into the living room.
“Did you take the box to the basement like I asked you to?”
“Mm hmm. You haven't forgotten the boxes. Come on, follow me and close your eyes.” He smiled and took my hands. I exhaled deeply and did what he said. I didn't know where he was taking me, but I had to trust him.
He asked me to open my field of vision after a short walk, and I took in the beautiful sight of the back porch, which left me completely amazed. There were lights on the ceilings and walls. A bed was by the corner of the space, and the dinner table was on the left with a dish and a glass of wine on top of it. “Is this like a date?” I turned to him with a sheepish grin.
“Kind of. Do you think I'm too old for that?”
“Oh, please you're not. Come on, let's see how good your cooking is.” I said to him.
We walked to the table and settled in, facing each other. I put the food into two plates and passed one to him. Looking up at him, I saw the exhilarated look in his eyes and the smirk on his lips. Who would have told me that this man was so perfect? Always putting my mind at peace. I had to thank whoever his first mate was because if she didn't leave. I wouldn't have found him. I wouldn't have known him.
We went through dinner in silence and when we finished; he took me to the bed and just held me, running his hands through my shoulder in soft caresses. Now that I had a window of chance, it was time to tell him everything Frey had told me today except for the dying part. I didn't want him to know that because it would basically push me into living every minute of my life with him like it was the last, and I didn't want that. I wanted every moment between us, moments like this, to be savored..
“Are you ok, my little darkness?”
“Frey told me about the whole thing. It's a bloodline curse. She didn't give much information, but asked me if I'd like to break the curse.” I turned over to him so I could see his face.
“And what did you say?”
“Denzel, I don't want to rope you into what you don't want to do.” I looked away and said the words.
“Rope me? What makes you think I don't want to help? You're my mate and if it requires me to put my life on hold just for you. I'll do it. Your life matters to me more than anything in this world,” he held my cheeks and caressed it softly. “You know that, right?”
“Yes. I do,” I bobbed my head to his words and looked at his lips as his gaze met mine. “Can I kiss you?”

Denzel
After I had taken the box used for the spell down to the basement, I headed out of the house and moved straight to the pack manor. I needed to talk with Tyler. If I would do this with Marion, then I had to at least get information about the nature of our relationship together, especially the sex part because I knew it would happen sooner or later. I had to be prepared. I stepped into the pack house and moved into the living room, asking some of the staff members about his whereabouts. I was lucky he was still in the dining room.
I entered the dining after I had knocked and beamed at Tyler, who was still getting through breakfast. He seemed to be happier than the last time I saw him. I was glad that he was strong enough to get through the grief of losing the man he loved. He looked up at me with a smile and offered me a seat. “Denzel, if you’re looking for Frey. She’s with Logan.”
“I came looking for you.” I said and saw the look of surprise flash across his face. “I know this isn’t very common, but I really need to talk to you.”
“Sure. I’m more than ready to listen. Let’s chat.”
“I have a male mate, and uh, it’s going great, but I really need to talk to you about…” I said, distress filtering into my voice.
“Look, Denzel. You know Night Shade Pack is queer paradise and there’s no judgment from me or anyone. If what you’re feeling is authentic, I suggest you go with the flow. I’m a hundred percent sure that everything will work out and the lack of clarity will disappear with time. For the sex part, I’d say roll with it as well, but don’t do anything you’re not comfortable with yet. The sex just gets better and make sure you use lube or something.” He chuckled at the end of his words.
“Thank you, Tyler.”
“Sure. Of course.”
“What about you, Ty? Are you ok considering that you lost a very important person?”
“Yes, I’m doing great. Thanks for asking.“
I rose to my feet and walked out of the dining area, returning to my home. I was feeling better, certain that I wanted to be with him forever and would spend the rest of my life loving him.
I used what was left of the hours of the day to plan the surprise I had for my mate and when he arrived at the house, I took him to the back porch where I had prepared a splendid night for us. We finished dinner together and lay on the bed, facing the ceiling. During the moment of our closeness, he opened up to me about the new knowledge of his episodes, and I promised to be with him every step of the way.
